Solo Twin Screw swap - is an engine hoist crazy idea?

Here is the boat I am currently in.

2.3L Whipple and lower manifold are currently out. Having a going back to stock sale if you will due to emissions.

Had help to remove everything and it will go back in with the 2.3L and stock fuel system for the time being. Thinking ahead, swapping injectors sucks. Despite this, I am crazy enough to contemplate doing a swap every few years to stay within emissions compliance.

The complete blower assembly with manifold is very heavy and awkward. Am I nuts in looking into a Harbor Freight type engine hoist with the lowest capacity to assist me in swapping back and forth down the line?

Thanks for entertaining an insane person.

I use an engine hoist when removing the blower, makes it a painless process when working solo. Get one that folds up so it takes up less space when not in use.

I've heard of people using an engine hoist for blower swaps. What happened that you have to take emissions all the sudden?

Not crazy at all. If I hadn't had 4 people to help me drop mine in I would've used a hoist.

Using a hoist is a good idea, never thought of that lol. I’m not a big guy so I usually stand in the engine bay(one foot where the air filter goes and the other where the battery goes). That’s how I pull and install them on my car.

I made a thing out of 2x4s, sort of like a strongback across the engine compartment. Then used ratchet straps to pick it up. It wasn't pretty, but it worked well.

It's an excellent idea but keep in mind that the book on the smaller HF hoist is a little on the short side and your front bumper may need to come off to make up for the reduced reach.

Quite a few Cobras and Lightnings are being sent to the State Ref as of late rather than a typical smog check.

So I am thinking aloud on how I can manage a tune and injector swap every 2 years if need be without going back to an Eaton.

How much heavier is it compared to the Eaton. I remember when I pulled my Eaton, it was easily a 2-man job. Piece of cake. Now if you're going to remove and reinstall it multiple times over, say, 10 years, then the hoist idea is solid.
