And now as of tomorrow Ali replaces Hermann running road cars, Mark runs race cars, Raptor supposedly somehow under the banner at Icons...

The Icon thing. Am I mistaken or is this somehow a new position?

It's new-ish. They created this structure called Enterprise Product Line Management in 18 where teams run certain vehicle types. Dave Pericak is now "Director Enterprise Product Line Management - Ford Icons." Mustang and Bronco fell in that group, and Raptor now does as well. It's...muddy, how FP falls in.

So they globally merged Ford Racing and SVT/RS/ST under Dave to create FP, which included Raptor. Once Dave left to do unibody vehicle they never truly replaced him and left Hermann running road cars and Mark running race cars. Now Hermann leaves tomorrow and Raptor became part of Icons under Dave (I think that was late spring; I first heard that in June). I would say FP is under the planning umbrella of Icons while FP handles actual development.

    Super simple.

I get why they would use the Shelby name. It's always been a cool one and in any case when they googled ZR1 they would have found that it was already taken.

In a way, that COULD be a good thing. If he is in charge of all the "cool" products (Mustang, Bronco, Raptor, Performance, etc... I think that is a positive. Obviously from his work on Boss 302 and S550 Mustang and FP he "gets it". Probably the closest they got left in the same vein of Coletti, Hameedi, Nair etc.

Oh without question. This GT500 is 100% a Raj/Dave thing. It was a very costly program by historical specialty Mustang standards, and that was because those two dudes wanted this car to be fast as hell on a road course.

You saying, to start with? Raj leaves, Jamal leaves, Dave moves to unibody vehicle but is now back in a sense. You hinted a while back that maybe there was more planned for this car that for whatever reason didn't materialize which has me begging the question - was it simply differing philosophies that shaped the direction this car has taken since inception and has it stuck to the original plan for the most part? Or did it veer off course each time the conductor changed?

    Good question.
@DBK Ill assume you’ve driven a preproduction/production GT500, so what is your review, both overall and specifically the DCT?
I think all of us are very happy this car even got made, but was there anything that was dropped from the final product that you personally would have like to have seen make production?
    Finally.....GT350R w/ DCT ever discussed?

How close was it to being 86’d? What saved it?

I bet VERY close. VERY. I would wonder if so much was spent in development, too costly to write off, make the car, try to get some development $ back.

I'm still annoyed they stopped using the SVT name and IMO the 13/14 was the last true Shelby GT500 especially since Shelby had some involvement before he passed away.

The 2020 just has the Shelby name for marketing (as already stated). But I'm still happy they made it.

So Ford should change their name since Henry's dead? Companys spend millions and billions of dollars to build a brand. Just because the founder is no longer around doesn't mean they abandon ship.

What would be interesting to see is the data on the sales projections with and without the Shelby brand attached to this car. If I had to guess, sales wouldn't suffer that much if this was a Mustang ST/RS/Cobra/Mach 1/Boss/etc. Ford obviously sees further value in the Shelby name than just sales, albeit in not sure what.

Kinda took it over the top there, but ok. And Henry Ford the third is still very involved with his company, so bad example.

I was saying that, it's cool that Shelby was involved and gave his input on the 13/14s. I'm not saying anything bad about the new GT500 and I'm sure I'll eventually own one.

I'm just glad Ford hasn't caved to the social media movement yet and renamed it the privilege mobile and cut its balls off. At some point they'll paint Shelby as a racist Texan and wipe out everything the man stood for.

    Very true.

That seems to be the story of the FP transition, muddy.
