Is it beneficial to do this? Assume the blower is ported, will heat be an issue? Anyone actually have a smaller upper on with their compound kit? Would it be ok to only go a little smaller than stock, like a 3.0 in?

hellion has done this when they were in the R&D stage with their compound car. putting a smaller pulley on the blower will multiply the final boost number at the manifold even further than it already does. it will make ALOT of boost, but it would also spool up a bit quicker and give you more low end. its all up to you.

Anytime you spin the blower harder, you will heat the air more, and take more power out of the crank.

Anytime you make more power(by any method) you make more heat in the engine coolant.

Actually those should probably read EVERYTIME.
