Should there be play in the PS pump pulley?

I have been chasing a sqeeky belt issue for almost a year now, off and on on my 1987 LX 5.0. I noticed today that the power steering pump pulley has roughly 1/4" - 3/8" play in it, meaning I can pull it towards the front of the car and push it to the back of the car. Kind of like its just sliding on the shaft. Is this normal does anybody know?

Not normal. Time for a new pump

Didn't think it was normal, but have come across stranger things that are! Time for some skinnies and a manual rack then! Just wonder if this is really my squeal or not....
