I know some of you are not too fond of this mod, but I felt the need to do it based on my particular situation. Here are my reasons in no particular order:

  1. I have a Mystichrome Cobra. Since I prefer to reverse park, the last thing I wanted to do is back up into a hard to see object. I would hate myself if I ruined the paint.
  2. Based on my garage setup, I have to reverse park. Having a reverse camera makes it easier to know when to stop so I don’t scratch my front bumper as I close the door.
  3. Safety! I have young kids that like to run around.
  4. I had already installed a double din Pioneer deck because I wanted CarPlay.

My goal was to avoid drilling a hole to route the wires. The only logical way was to flush mount in the keyhole location. As per the other write-up on this site, I drilled out the lock cylinder rivet holding it in place. The camera I bought fit perfectly in the hole and clicked into place. I wasn’t completely satisfied with the tunnel vision even though I knew to expect it. I decided to bring the camera lens further out via a rubber grommet. With a little bit of trimming (a tiny bit oblong) the grommet fit perfectly into the round opening nice and snug. The inner diamer of 0.75” was needed, and the outer diameter needed was about 1.5”. When I received the (6) grommets in the mail, I realized the outer diameter was measured inside the groove. No problem, as I was able to trim away to my liking.

In the end, I’m very happy with the outcome. My deck does not have an HD screen, so I wasn’t expecting crazy resolution. I will most likely cut the guideline wires and customize the ones within the Pioneer deck.

Raayoo L002 reverse camera from Amazon for less than $30 ().

I just ran it parallel and used some Tessa tape to give it an OEM look.

Since I have a convertible that does not have the fold down rear seats, I also ran a cable to the bottom cushions from the manual trunk release pull. It’s just in case my trunk popper fails and I need to get in there. Not having a manual key lock has its drawbacks.

Could you possibly show how you ran the cable to your bottom seat cushions? I am currently doing this install and also have a vert, so I will also need a fallback manual trunk popper, thanks!

Once you get in there, you’ll see. I routed the rope through some of the holes under the underside of the trunk lid. The rope can then go through the side of the seatback. Once you remove the rearseat seat bottom, you’ll be able to leave the rope there.

If I remember correctly, I tapped into the reverse light bulb harnesss. I can’t check either since I no longer own the car. Sorry.

Also for those interested - this is the camera I used FWIW - Crux CUB-01

It fit the keyhole suuuper snuggly without the need for any sort of grommet. It just pops right in. you still catch the very edges of the spoiler in it due to the wide field of vision but i've been happy with it.
