that's encouraging. some of the posts i have seen on this subject over the years said it was as hard or even harder to unscrew this than it was to break loose the whole assembly from the harmonic dampener, and that the threads can easily become damaged.

Ya so I hit it with PB for a day or two and let it deep in there.

Tried it without heat. Nada.

Started hitting it with heat and then a couple thumps.

I think the key is to not sit there and hammer it with the impact when it doesn’t want to move.

I’m sure the heat cycles I gave it helped a bit too as I was short on time and tried a couple times one day and came back to it the next

I remember that sucker,,

After the 2nd time its a breeze,

Last time I used a standing press,,

Press I was able to go through and become a holder.

Than used a bar for second holder.

Than breaker bar with pipe extension on Allen turning counter clock wise again ,

I had to lay press down to get the force to break it

I used heat the 1st time and found when it came off I had to file threads back on bolt and the best I could on tri bar.

To get tribar to unscrew from Allen bolt is tricky,,
It's all in how you hold it,
And it's left hand threads ,
Not much different than removing from car.

to remove from the car you turn the allen bolt clockwise.

but i am thinking to remove it from the tribar i will have to turn the allen bolt counter-clockwise - assuming that the tribar is held stationary and viewing from the front.

edit - whoops yes you just said that in above post - thanks!!!

It's counter clock wise on engine also.

But you got it.

It's left hand threads on both,,
Depending if on/off would be different directions to turn

i am determined to replace the rubber bushings myself, so i built a jig that will hold the tribar solidly while i attempt to unscrew the center post from it.

it is a 1/4" steel plate, 10x10, with a 7/8 hole in the center to access the center hex. three pressed-in dowel pins locate into the 3 holes on the tribar, and three small bolts gently keep the tribar pullled adjacent to the plate. the steel plate is bolted to 2 angle irons that are attached to a brick fire pit. i should be able to use a jack (similar to how i remove the whole assy from the car) if need be.

i will post up some pics

but my main question is, while looking at the assembly from the front (as if from the front of the car), what direction should i turn the center post in order to loosen it.? i'm 99% sure it's COUNTER-CLOCKWISE, since the center post threads into the tribar from the REAR.
It will be actually to the left with Allen, while holding tri,

I would say 400 area I did metco 4lb ,
Haven't driven car much,,I did just take it for inspection 2 weeks ago.

It's time to fix a few issues,
Windshield
And wiper cowl ..
And ac issue.
Looks like crap. But still fun ride ,

cool.

is this bolted to bricks??

the way you bolted pulley, is where I held it with press being 1 bolt and bar through hole as second.

I did lay my press so I could push vertically, feeling this would be best for my weightless ass,

yeah the angle iron is bolted to the bricks with 4 masonry anchors.

this fire pit also has a side opening that i think i'm gonna have to use, because so far this sucker is not budging. lol

that way, i can get a floor jack under the 3/4 breaker bar and start cranking.

should i expect a loud "pop" when it finally breaks free? like when taking it off the car?

No. Mine started to creep and then just went easy. But that was with an impact

Use floor jack handle on breaker bar.

Out all the things I've read so far, this looks to be a method I would love to try. Mine is off the car right now. I've already got the Mcmaster bushings.
