Removed Chip and Car Won't Start

I bought the car with a chip in it, had it replaced because it was shorting out and causing the car to shut off while driving.

New chip is a 4 bank SCT, I got sick of sending it in every time I made a change to the setup, so I got a Predator tuner.

Removed the chip, but the stock tune is... gone? or I'm not sure what is going on.

Odometer reads all dashes (----------) and the security light is flashing. Put the chip back on and everything works just fine.

Do I need to take it Ford to get re-flashed before I can use the predator, or will the new tune take care of this issue like the chip is?

Sounds like PATS is going off. The security system. Has the cluster or computer been swapped?

+1 And the PATS could be turned off in the tune that's on the chip which is why the chip works.

I wonder if Ford missed that little scenario. If a thief puts a chip in the ecu with the PATS turned off will they be able to start it?

As far as I know the cluster and computer are original to the car.

Should I get my computer reflashed to stock before trying to install a predator tune and removing the chip? Or can the predator turn off the pats?

Just on a general note, can a custom tune be installed over another tune or should I make sure the computer has the stock tune on it by reflashing it?

well one way to tell if its actually the pats is to go to a hardware store and get a key cut, just an ordinary key. if u can put it in the ignition and start the car just fine, the pats is disabled. if it doesnt start though, theres an issue with the stock ecu.

i say this because a key costs a few bucks, while a reflash could cost a lot more, and not fix the issue
