That’s exactly what I did. But no luck. Guess my fingers are too fat… LOLIt’s a royal pain, I have decent luck snaking my phone through the underside of the bumper and taking pics with the flash on. A lot of people confuse the tag with the blank paint tag that’s attatched to the radiator.
thanks for taking the time to check! appreciate you guys keeping this thread alive!View attachment 1875107
Looks like mine is just a regular old factory convertible.
Cool history lesson though, thanks for the education!
that makes two of us LOL i had to use the volume up button to snap a pic on my iphone when it was in camera mode, made the task a little easier. still a choir tho. That’s exactly what I did. But no luck. Guess my fingers are too fat… LOL
I know! So far only 4 documented cars have surfaced. Hoping this post can find a few more. The crazy part is that I’m friends with the mustang launch manager from 03 & 04 and even he has said that ford didn’t track the “show” cars in terms of total production units. After the builds of the cars at Dearborn all the left over paperwork was shipped to a building in the highland park area and it doesn’t seem ford cares much about that stuff currently. Reminds me of that scene from raiders of the lost arc with the never ending warehouse lol Even Marti doesn’t have a record of how many “show” units were assembled. They acknowledged its special build status but not in terms of “1 of xxx, show builds” my car is documented as being the first production terminator to receive chrome rims and is the only mineral grey cobra coupe that left the factory with them as it was an early job 1 car.I wish you had an idea how many do exist.

i have the front bumper off my coupe right now so it's very easy access to check... but, no cigar =/
one thing i would like to ask you @HVACdude is it my imagination or did cobras have a different clear coat application than other non-cobra cars? i have been to car shows and have seen gt's and others that it seemed like the strut towers and other underhood areas were not nearly as shiny as with the cobras. but, it could have been my imagination

I believe that was discussed in iron fist lead foot that the cobras received better paint and clear coat in the engine bays VS the regular Gt’s.
That is really cool. The only 2003 Mineral Gray Cobra to come from the factory with the chrome wheels. Do you have any photos of it on or about delivery?I know! Yeah, I remember that my old '03 Cobra's engine bay was nicer (paint wise) than the Mach 1s and GTs of fellow '03 Mustang owners. Many of the hood undersides on 2003-2004 Cobras are not finished from the factory, giving them a matte finish look. It is more noticeable when the hood blanket is removed. I remember that my Cobra's paint was better than average. The clear coat in particular was excellent. A friend of mine at the time had a DSG Cobra just like mine, but his paint was thinner than mine. It definitely showed. It wasn't uncommon for the factory paint to be inconsistent (thinner or thicker) on these Cobras.I believe that was discussed in iron fist lead foot that the cobras received better paint and clear coat in the engine bays VS the regular Gt’s.
