I grew up 2 houses from Long Island Sound, so we lived in the water half the year. But never is bitter cold water. There was a "polar bear club" in my hometown that went for a swim every January. NO! I did fall through some ice when I was around 13, though. That was not fun. BRRRR!

Holy crap! No fuel services for 244 miles!

No kidding. Even the AlCan is not that bad.

It's one of the reasons I got the 36gal fuel tank. You have to drive 15 miles out of town to get to the sign. There was literally nothing on the road, no services, no phones, not even a cabin. Pure bliss.
