I need some advice on purchasing a set of Race Ramps.
I have a lowered, on Eibach Pro Kit springs, GT500 that I would like to be able to change all fluids and oil, and be able to swap mid pipes in and out on.
Not interested in buying a low profile jack, making ramps out of wood, or a buying a Quick Jack. I do own a regular profile jack. I consider these ramps a lifetime purchase, and want to be able to use these ramps on all my future cars, that might be lower than my GT500, so I'm going for their lowest angle of approach models, around 6 degrees.
I would like to get the whole car in the air, for mid pipe swaps, be able to remove one wheel at a time for brake fluid changes/pads, and use ramps for oil changes on this, and my other two cars.
I'm thinking of a set of ramps, 2 four inch roll ups, 2 chocks, 2 10" or 8" wheel cribs, and ramp extenders if needed.
A couple of ramp decision questions:
The 72" 6.8 degree ramps.
Pros: No need for extenders, two piece design.
Cons: Only gets you 8" of lift, only 12" wide.
The 67" XT 10.8 degree two piece ramps.
Pros: Gets you 10" of lift, 14" wide.
Cons: Must buy the extenders to make the 6 degree approach. The GT500 won't clear 10.8
Last choice 80" Multi Purpose 8.5 degree ramps.
Pros: Gets you 10" of lift, 14" wide, no extenders needed for my GT500 (future cars might need the 6 degree approach!!), can be used as trailer ramps.
Cons: 8 versus 6 degree approach.
Which ramps would you get?
Use questions:
I would like to get a wheel off for brake work. Do the 4" roll ups and jack allow you to do this quickly, without the need for the whole ramp set up?
To get the whole car up, I'm guessing you need to use the ramps on the front wheels, put the roll ups under the back wheels, drive the whole car forward, chock front wheels, jack the rear of the car up from under the differential, then place jack stands on the axle tubes or wheel cribs under the rear wheels?
What are your Race Ramp set ups? Do you regret buying them, or have you found any negatives about owning them? I would hate to make a $650+ mistake.
Thanks!
