Questions about our transmissions....

so... i have 4.30s.. and i love them.
i'm not one to complain, but... last week for the first time i went to sac raceway.. it took me about 2 hours to get there and crusing back at 1am not being able to go faster than 80mph(3k rpms) really pissed me off..
IF i ever rebuld the t46s.. is it possible to make 5th ever lower in gear ratio so it drops the rpms a bit?
I don't really know what i'm asking.. i don't know the technical terms.. i guess what i'm asking is. could the t45 internals be changed to make 5th gear a little more forgiving on the freeway?

you'd be better off just going with a T56... when my T45 goes, I'm junking it.

Good question, I don't know. I doubt it though.

I'll find out when I build my proshifted 800hp-capable T45 in the next year.

I don't think so.
The T45 has a .067 5th gear ratio and I don't know if parts from the others will fit it.

The TKO600 can come with a .64 5th but that won't be a big difference.

The T56 will have 6th gear at .50 if you order the right one.

Not trying to steal your thread, but this might benefit both of us.. What all do we need to change over from the t45 to a t56?

i think we need:
t56
New crossmember
new driveshaft.
new clutch
new flywheel. i believe that's it.

So.. there is no way of changin the t45 5th gear ratio? =(

The T56 will have 6th gear at .50 if you order the right one.

Yea with a really horrible 1st gear. Seems to me like the T56s are pretty worthless for an NA Cobra.

The Viper spec trans has a 2.66 first gear which is awful for a n/a 4v engine but it does have a .50 6th gear. The Cobra T-56 has a 2.97 first which is great if you have at least 4.30s but it has a .62 6th gear.

The Cobra T-56 also has the 2.66 first and 6th gear is .63, only a trivial difference from the T-45's .67 5th. It is also much weaker than the viper as it has a 10-spline input shaft. The 00 R is the only one that has the 2.97 1st.

The T45 is one of the best-geared trannies available for Mustangs IMO. They have a bad rap, but I love mine. Eventually I plan to have the fastest T45 shifted car in the world, which I think is only like 10.70's. That'll be a while, but Promotion is gonna build mine to hold anything I can throw at it.
