i plan on draining out my tranny fluid and putting in some new tranny fluid in. well, when i go to do this will i have to remove the gasket sealant if i wanna just poor it in through the shifter?

If you want to go through the shifter, you need to clean off and replace the sealant or use CobraBob's gasket.
You can fill through the upper plug either by running a funnel and line down through the shifter after (with boots off) or use a pump and get it from below.
