Has anyoen done this before, putting a 99+ IRS into a pre 99 car... There are two bolts that go into the frame where the rear IRS bracket/quad shock is, there are no holes on the pre 99 car, has anyone encountered this problem?

uh, this may be a stupid answer, but why don't you drill them?

well the problem is that the holes are threaded, and there is some kind of nut welded on the inside of the hole.

I cant simply thread it because it is only an 1/8th thick

I swapped my rear with a 98 cobra and it bolted right in. The bracket for the rear IRS bolt replaces the quadshock braket.

What about the two bolts on the bottom of the frame?

There are the two that raplce the quad shock bolts and then two more on the bottom??? Or did a 99 and 01 not have those bolts?

Never mind....it just takes A LOT of time and patience.

We drilled new holes, put a nut on a spacer, welded it in place and then tacked that to the inside of the hole. The pass. side takes for ever and I suggest dropping the tank to make life easy

I will be documenting evrything and making a writeup. Putting an IRS into a Pre 98 or even 99 car is NO EASY task

I do all the tuning at Steeda.ca so I am no wizard with a wrench, but I am not bad either.....I believe 98+ already have the holes in the bottom which would solve all these issues

I'm still not sure i understand what you are talking about. when i did the swap the 98 cobra he had to do no drilling or welding to be able to use the IRS. The IRS bolted right in no problems used the same mounting point on the frame as the quadshocks.

The IRS bracket that bolts in place of the quad shocks has 2 holes on the underside as well as the 2 where the quads were. Pre 99 vehicles (98 may have this) do not have those 2 extra holes in the frame (IRS was never a thought in 97 is my guess)

To use all 4 holes, you need to make 2 new ones in the frame and do quite a bit of cutting, welding, etc

hmm now I know what you are talking about, so you should have a good write-up instore for all pre-99 cobras and gt's wanting to tackle the swap?

uh, on mine, those brackets were only held on by 2 bolts each side...on the outer part of the framerail where the quadshock brackets bolts on...

my 99 cobra had 4 bolts on each side for the IRS to mount to the frame. My 95 cobra that I put it in only had the 2 bolts that your talking about for the quadshocks. I just welded every part of the IRS bracket to the frame that i could. no problems yet.

So the 01 IRS cars only have 2 bolts to hold the IRS bracket to the car?
