Powerstop, Stoptech, or Baer for rotors and pads

Hey all, sorry for "another one of those threads" but the search here is killing me. I search for each of those names individually and nothing comes up for Powerstop, and just a handful for baer and stoptech.

Anyway, I just need a front/rear rotor and pad kit for my '03. It sees ~300 miles a year so not a DD, and basic power mods (CAI & pulley). Slotted and drilled preferred just because I like the look. American Muscle has three kits varying from $381, $544, and $645 (powerstop, stoptech, and baer in that order).

I have no problem spending for the Baer if they're marginally better. It's tough to gauge quality based on the reviews on AM because they seem to only post favorable comments, so all three brands are 4.5+ stars.

Thanks for making it through another brake rotor thread :)

Isn't Powerstop the kits you get on ebay? If so I'd stay away. I cracked a set of those rotors. The previous owner put them on, not me.

The question is what kind of miles are those? Are they cruising down the freeway at the speed limit miles? Or are they full boost running through the gears miles? For the first I'd go with the middle of the road set up. For the second I'd suggest a good rotor like the DBA's mentioned or R1 Concepts and a good pad. I've only ran Hawks in the past and currently have Baer pads as they go with my current calipers.

The land of commies and socialists!
Everything Baer offers for stock replacement brakes is just rebranded. Literally nothing special. Now of you're looking at their two piece rotors that's obviously different.

Stoptech and Centric are actually one company. The lower end stoptech rotors are just rebranded centric parts. I believe the pad formulations are different though.

I've owned several sets of stoptech rotors and pads and have never been disappointed. I put their kit on my old VW and the Z23 pads had a better bite than the oem stuff that came off. I loved how low dust they were too.

Now I have zero experience with powerstops slotted and cross drilled rotors but I've never before heard of them being junk or cracking like noted above.

If your car is a cruiser with occasional blast through some twisties I'd go with stoptech. If you're concerned with their rotors find ones you like.

In regard to powerstop on Ebay, not sure. You can certainly find them there, but you can find stoptech too; or really, anything for that matter. Seems that AM, CJ Pony, and LMR all carry both brands. CJ actually carries a nice selection of Hawk rotors, but man I cannot bring myself to terms with those black charcoal colored discs. And they're pushing $700+ which is getting a bit much for a color I don't like.

I'm guessing my car would be fine with any of these. I'm not making crazy power and it's cruiser most of the time with a touch of WOT on the Mexico freeways.

I think I will look for Stoptech. Finding things in stock nowadays is the next challenge. If I can't pull that off, looks as if Lethal carries the one piece Baer sports. How bad can they be if lethal is selling them!

I second carbotech, I exclusively use them for pads on all 3 of my cobras, tech/customer service is top notch give them a call and the will match pads to application
As for rotors, I have never had a set crack or fail unless pushing them hard at road course events
For street driving I don’t think rotors will ever get hot enough to make a difference

Keep an eye out for sales. I bought my R1 Concepts on sale for $120 shipped a few months ago. That's just the fronts though.

It all depends on the type of street driving and the quality of the rotors.

Which R1 rotors did you get? The eLINE series, or the carbon GEOMET series? The drilled and slotted eLINE are $327 a set which is pretty good. Pads are $50-$100 depending which you get.

I'm assuming the picture they use showing the 4 rotor set is wrong because it does not show a 13" and 11". I'll give them a shout. Looks like I can get 15% off if I whore out my email and phone number.

I'm pretty sure I did the eline. I only wanted slotted as I've had bad luck with the drilled and slotted.

I'd take the pics with a grain of salt. I'm sure it's just a random set of rotors.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for their input. I ended up with the R1 eLINE front/rear (drilled and slotted) set and their "OEM" pads for $350 after the 15% coupon and free shipping.
