I replaced the aluminum tank with the stock plastic tank, and it seems to be cooler. I will know next week. I might have time to install a cooler inline with the power steering hoses before I go to the track.

I finally found the solution for my powersteering issues, the electric pump I tried would not hold up either and brakes and steering fail.

What works perfectly is a Turn One GM style pump with external cooler and BMW fluid tank mounted right above the pump. Was able to do lap after lap without any problems.

I know this thread is a bit old but figured it is worth updating.

Specifically which pump, and what did you have to do to mount it?

I used the PBH bracket they sell for the GM Type II pump:
PBH bracket

Turn One builds the pumps to your specs, this is what it said on my invoice:
HP2 Universal Pump / 2. 75gpm / 2000psi
401-005 Corvette offset Overdrive Pulley

The pulley does not have the perfect offset but has been working just fine.

Kit car builder, ie the F5 Cobra roadster with Coyote aluminator.
Other builders recommend Honda spec power steering fluid to deal with high heat.
I have an auto trans cooler in line with the return line to add fluid volume and cool the fluid. No problems so far.
Factory 5 changed pumps since mine, with KRC racing pumps.
Glad to see you found a solution, just some info that might be useful.
