About done with this intercooler install and now that I have more room in my fender after going blow through, how big of a filter do you think I can stuff on the end on my power pipe? I have a 6 inch ractive now, never really heard of this brand but thinking a 6+ inch k&n. What do you all use...

Use the largest one that fits. Something like the ones above would be a good start.

If it were my car, I'd choose the RC-5171.

Does the type of filter on the power pipe make that much of a difference when it come to performance. With my non intercooler setup I was running a cheap spectra auto zone filter that I think was 4" in length. It was all I could fit at the time with running draw through. So how much does the CFM flow of a filter affect performance.

Run the biggest one you can. There is no downside to running a larger filter while there can be adverse affects to an undersized filter. I'm sure the spectre is an ok filter but I would personally run a name brand K&N, S&B, AEM etc. I have either a 12" or 14" oiled K&N on my car but would like to switch to a dry filter when this one needs its next cleaning.

I know K&N has flow charts but I would love to see some real world data to back the claim of air filter and restrictions for blowers. Seems there is no performance gain in all reality but more of creating less restriction. At that point, wouldn't it be just about the size of filter and not brand?

I would also call to question the structural integrity of the cheap filters. On a small Honda motor it would surely work fine. Through it on a boosted application and it would be catastrophic if it were to collapse on itself and fail sending pieces into a blower/turbo.

Close friend of mine had the center metal piece come out of the short spectre filter and go through his D1. He had a big bill to get it rebuilt by procharger. Something to think about.

I believe bigger is better after seeing data regarding ambient air density and how much it matters, even with power adders.

So now that your schooling me on air filter and restrictions even on blowers I have a confession. This is the bullshit filter i had to use when i was draw through. It was the only filter I could fit at the time. I wonder if I was loosing some psi because of it
