The past two mornings I awoke with PND but today was especially painful with an irritated throat. Once I hacked up quarter sized thing of phlegm my throat felt 75% better. Is phlegm as irritating as it seems?

Get some Sudafed 12hr. That should take care of the PND. Don't bother with DayQuil/NyQuil, too weak.
It is for me. I feel instantly better once I clear my throat.
