When my wife and I were dating she was pretty far left. She never really followed politics but her family were slightly left and her friends were hardcore liberals. Her friends weren't surprising considering they were all in college and all studying liberal arts. They pumped her head full of a lot of BS that they were taught by their professors. I never really talked politics much with her but she would make comments or ask questions. I would give my opinion on the topics and ask follow up questions. She was open to learn and have discussions and over time she went right. She isn't as far right as me but pretty close. The best part was when some of her friends who "followed politics closely" started having conversations when we would go out not knowing I was a conservative. I would start talking with them and asking questions. They either didn't know or were completely misinformed. As soon as I started giving them facts or correcting them they very quickly changed the subject. None of them will talk politics around me any more. The best part was when one of the "elites" in the group tried calling me out at a party about what I do and where I work (defense). Had the gull to tell me I work for "the devil" and "I need to utilize my skills for something good instead of killing people." What we do is primarily peacetime defense and contributes to no loss of life. I called him out, and told him he is whats wrong with this country by attacking people without having any real knowledge of the topic at hand. I then prodded him bout what he does. He worked in IT logistics for Wal-Mart. I asked him what his thoughts were on Wal-Mart and how they treat employees, outsource everything out of country to places that treat their employees like slaves, and kill local businesses. He conveniently had to go to the bathroom and never came back to finish the discussion. I found him later on still talking politics with someone else. Asked him why he didn't want to finish the discussion and said he forgot.
