I have a 97 cobra which needs new o2 sensors and cats but I would like to find a kit to simply remove cats and replace with downpipes and new o2 sensors and a chip to take full advantage of the more open exhaust and run properly car already has a loudmouth cat back and cold air intake also where I live in NM there are no emissions or noise laws so doing so would not be illegal but cant find such a kit for my car

There are many choices of mid pipes in H or X style. Just Google 1997 mustang mid pipe.Off road style have no cats and can add a few hp.

Hmmm....removing the cats should not affect how the car runs. Perhaps you didn't get a o2 sensor plugged back in or you have a bad one. The front two o2 sensors are the ones to be looking at.

My $0.02, a CAI is a waste of money on a car with a stock or non-boosted engine. Some of the so called "cold air" actually leave the filter in the engine bay sucking in"hot air"...

@cbrown I was wondering about that. I had my air filter box and MAF out today in order to clean the air filter and I couldn't see how a CAI would help since the stock setup pulls cold air from inner fender. I do wish there was a way to eliminate the upper section of air tube that has the indent for the strut tower brace without removing the brace.

@OP As others have said, get a off-road X of H pipe and then just run it like that or better get a tuner like SCT X3 and you can do a simple strategic tune with the device to eliminate the rear 02 sensors (there is no need for the narrow band rear 02 sensors if you don't have cats).
