Just a caveat here. I spent a lot of time meeting with the sheriff up there a few years back. Speeders will not find this area a GSP or other police "friendly" area as the number of Atlanta lunatics have caused a tremendous increase in accidents. It's not the hitting on one tree that gets you..it's the hitting of one, two, three and so on as you plummet down a 1000ft or so. Police tired of the rescues due to speed and you can expect getting maxed out on fines if caught. Last time I was up there I was in my 03 Cobra and was followed around like crazy... Having said that..I recommend coming up on state hwys such as hwy 1 through Swainsboro-to Wren..Hwy 1- to ( I think 221)- to 78 to 17- --will take you the backroads (you will see folk selling boiled peanuts on the side of the road- gotta try them) through Elberton, Toccoa, Clayton ..you have to hit 441 and go to the gorge..spend some time there and proceed up 441 past Dillard..and take the scenic road to Highlands.(Hwy 106).it's a right turn after Dillard and you see a waterfall in the distance so you can't miss it. A lot a twisties and waterfalls into Highlands area. If you camp/rent up in North Ga.- (I rented a place on Lake Rabun) you will want to bring your own water. The picture in my sig, is from Brasstown Bald Mtn...great scenery
