Is there specific jargon a person has to say to stop people from recording your call, when they say this call will be recorded for training purposes, etc?

I have a company that just started calling last Friday. The company they represent sent me a bill for test I had done in July 2013, in June 2014. I automatically kicked them off a $25.00 check. Did so again when I got the bill in July. August they turned it over to a National Collection Agency. They admitted they saw my 2 payments and that they had been credited to my account. They said when they send a bill it is due immediately as they do not make payment arrangements.

Well they start out by saying the call is recorded. The girl they put on the phone Friday had me so twisted up by the time I hung up I do not know what all was said but the above. My mother-in-law passed away Monday night and this company has been harassing my wife today while I was at work. I will talk to them and pay them but I do not want to be recorded FOR THEIR BENEFIT!

What do I need to say at the start of the call to stop any recordings, if at all possible.

I thought I should be able to say....I do not agree for this call to be recorded for any purposes whether for training or other matters. Please turn off your recorders and I will happy to speak to you. Also if you refuse to turn off the recording ?????

All for $350.00 or so. DUH!

    Thanks

Really nothing you can say in order to get them to stop recording. By law, they are only required to notify you that you MAY be recorded. My suggestion is to not answer the calls OR tell them you will only speak to them when they are NOT recording and then hang up.

Also, curious to know...Did you pull your credit report to make sure it wasnt a fake debt collector?

You can get one free credit report from each company every year.

Also creditkarma.com is free too. Just checking to cover your butt.

I am not sure if there is a specific law covering debt collection, but in some states (New York for example), as long as one party to the conversation knows it is being recorded it is legal to record the call.

i recorded my exwife one time, and used it in court. she was threatening to burn down the house of any judge who ruled in my favor for anything. that was a good day.

Just a formality of them telling you, the person talking has no control over the recording.

Thanks everyone. No I have not pulled my credit but will do so over this weekend. It is actually a Law Firm that is doing the collection. I have never heard of such crap. We are paying my wife's other hospital bills $25.00 or so every month and never been an issue. But this company is not so nice. Why they are worried I guess and want their money so fast is they billed me for 2 (TWO) anesthesiologists and my insurance would only pay for one. But my insurance left me open saying that they could bill me and hold me responsible for the other one. Well they did but it took almost a year for them to do it. I think it's insurance fraud but my workplace insurance (Blue Cross Blue Shield) will not stand up for me.
