Here is a shot of my old hub on the new GSP shaft. It's easy to see the nut would never clamp the shaft in place and it would just float.

My final conclusion on these shafts is that nobody should ever even attempt to run these shafts, not even in a pinch because they will most likely destroy your knuckle bearings and hubs or they will fail and cause other damage. These things are nothing short of absolute JUNK.

Going back to the length issue I previously bought up I am not 100% sure the new shafts are shorter. I cannot get the stock shafts to stay in either the fully compressed or extended position to get an accurate measurement. But in reality its a mute point.

Now I get to try and return them to RA, hopefully I am able to get them to understand these shafts are defective and are unable to be installed so I don't have to eat the shipping costs.

Just for comparison, here is a picture of my 01 OE half-shafts after I fixed them up a bit. I haven't actually measured the solid shaft diameter, but it looks like it is larger than the GSPs, but smaller than the Terminator originals.

Looking at the pictures I agree with your assessment.

Did you POR-15 your shafts? That's what I ended up doing. Set me back a full day re-assembling my IRS with knocking off the loose rust, cleaning, prepping and painting.

Yes, that is POR15. My shafts were in good shape with the exception of a slight leak in one of the outer boots. I was going to replace the boot, but after taking the clamp off, I decided that the problem was the clamp, so I just installed a new clamp and will hope for the best. The car is a low miler and the boots all seem to be in real good shape. I'm still running a stock engine so I don't have to worry too much about breaking them.

Minor update on this situation or more of a PSA about the return policy at Rock Auto. I sent the half shafts back on their dime and they refunding me 100%. I included pictures of the issues I had with them and also asked that they be removed from the site as they are dangerous if ran.

Honestly I am impressed as I have never sent anything back to them and was concerned that I would have to eat the return shipping cost like I have before with other companies. I wont hesitate to continue to purchase parts from them now that I know this.
