So, my 95 has been setting for 18 years collecting dust. In It’s day it was a good car, bit now it will just be a weekend beater. I have started getting it road worthy again and want to paint it, but what color? It is currently teal with ghost flames…obviously outdated, so what now?

I am really wanting to do a candy color (candy red/black cherry) this time, but worry it would look odd on this body style. I really Like the color on top, fade to black effects…any thoughts from the masses?

Thanks

Thanks for the replies.

The soul red looks pretty nice, will add it to the list.
While I love the way the tangerine looks, it just isn't what I am going after on this car.

I found an old thread in the pics/vid section, of a new edge with candy apple red...I really like it. It belongs to a member here, @candyroush but he hasn't been on line in several years.

Yes, that's Nick's car. I know that car. He was local to me.
Not sure if he still owns it though. Haven't seen/spoken with him in years. Pretty sure he owns a shop now. If you wanted to know the color, I think I could put you in touch with his shop.

Keep in mind to make it look right, you need to do a full color change. His was just a quicker spray with no jambs done if I remember correctly.

Honestly, the Soul Red is pretty similar, a bit more subtle though. Trust me that SR color pops in the sun. As you drive around, keep an eye out for newer Mazda with that color. You'll know it when you see it for sure.

On his original post he list the color as House of Kolors - Kandy apple red.

And yes, I dread hearing the cost of a color change, that in addition to using a candy color could hurt. The car is teal right now, and I considered a candy teal, maybe the color difference wouldn't show up as bad in the engine bay. However, after looking around online at examples, I just don't care for it.

I have everything but the color and wheel choices figured out, & think wheel choices are just as stressful as picking a color. I am going to have to get busy though, car goes in the shop at end of the month.

I'm super picky on wheels too. Currently running Cosmis XT-005r and love the look and they were much lighter than my previous True Forged, Saleens etc.

Have you seen the "Teal Cobra"?

While it may not be everyones cup of tea, I am going with a VFN fiberglass extended hood. It is a pin on, which is not ideal, but I have always wanted to run one of these.

Here is pic from their site...

Avalanche Grey or Destroyer Grey would be my first choice on that body style.

Next would be Oxford White and Compition Orange.

When AG and DG first came out I thought they were badass colors. But they already seem played out IMO. Those colors are now showing up on the classic Mustangs.

I like your OW and CO suggestions on the SN-95 body style.

I don’t know if I'd say those colors are played out. I will however say that only certain classic builds can pull them off. The car you posted is a massive no for me.

To me in order to pull either color off there needs to be a sinister look to the car and chrome anything makes either color look dull. Matte black trim pieces and black wheels make that happen in my opinion.

Making progress, I am trying to have it on the road in about 6 weeks. Interior is out, needs a clutch and I have rear control arm problems.

LOL, I agree with you 100% on that. That color on that classic was a huge fail LOL.
Beauty is always in the eye of the beholder, Glenn. LOL. While I wouldn't personally choose that "destroyer gray" paint on an early model classic Mustang, the owner of that one obviously thought different. To each his/her own. ;)

@1o1proof, so what paint color have you chosen to go with? Looking at your last photo, that looks like a nice size garage.
