My wife and I are still working, we are both essential and have had no break.
My wife's uncle died from Covid Pneumonia yesterday morning after briefly coming out of his coma. Our mail carrier died from Covid on December 3rd at age 56.
My sister, her husband and my niece and nephew currently have Covid but luckily in the milder form.

Ironically, covid has turned real estate into a gold mine. I have beat my best year ever nearly 4x over. Made an entire yearly salary from an old job in 6 weeks. There's no sign of things slowing down in this area. Don't think I've slept since last March. Extremely blessed this year.

I work in public safety at the county level. I have been able to work every day (kinda required!) but we were not allowed to take leave time for about 3 months. So we got paid out excess vacation time and will be getting "hazard pay" check in a week or two. I have been able to continue to farm as usual, great stress relief. Wife had some unemployment, but was compensated, so financially we are okay. Wife is tired of being home. I am tired of her being home... lol. All in all, it is okay, save the stress at work.

Is this due to people un-assing cities and suburbs?

I have no idea where you live I am just assuming based on what is happening in my area. My home value is up around 75k since I bought it just over a year ago. From what I understand its due to people leaving the two closes cities and even the bay area. Home values have been on a hard incline since this covid crap started.

Since the vast majority of SVTp is only huring from bangin models and bench pressing cars all is well here im sure...

Ok seriously lol
My wife and i are lucky we both work in healthcare...im an RN and she is a PMP with a big corp. My immediate family took it in the ass a bit but not bad ,( the one made more on unemployment for bit than he did at his job, but hsd a gig now paying he old wage) .

Others in my area are hurting some but ya wouldnt know it, i see them out do8ng and buying shit all the time (maybe the bank will have some fun soon i dunno)

The usual suspects in my area like food and beverage and some other industries are dying fast. They rely on summer tourists, fall hunters and winter snowmobilers...i suspect my favorite water holes will be close next year

Interest rates dropped to historically low rates...that created a massive pool of instant buyers who wanted to take advantage now, instead of missing out. Rates are expected to start creeping back up in 2021. 50% of my business this year was out of state buyers buying sight unseen, or by virtual live showing. I have buyers from Germany, Italy, Virginia islands but most are from CA, FL and NY.

And I am in western NC.

Just shut down the Restaurant again Yesterday. Got shut in March, opened up in July, made it until Inslee shut down in restaurant dining again. Large portions of the Metropolitan Seattle, Bellevue areas are looking desolate. Long Dark Winter.

We shut down in March and reopened in July and they called back whoever they wanted. From what I was told they weren’t making jack and I was better off than they were

we've stayed decently busy so pay hasn't changed much but some older folks have basically retired so having to take on a bunch of their crap along with all the extra managerial crap due to covid (managing their return to work, corona paid leave etc...). It's been much more stressful this year

I am in fabrication for a large construction equip manufacturer.

Pre covid work was boomimg. We were busy and working overtime on the weekends, but than in April I was off work for about 6 weeks "due to political pressures" in May came back to work on split teams and we all had 2 day work weeks (different days to social distance). Had unemployment for the other 2 days.

Returned to work full time after labor day, with a 10% pay cut and told they will catch up the 401k match at a later time but at no more than 180 days.

Saw some strong bookings for Q1 this month so feeling optimistic about 2021.

As others have said Lord commander Inslee has shut down things again here until Jan 4 (I'm in washington state)

Biggest issue right now is supplier constraints and like someone mentioned ports are behind too, so we have been limited on supplies of steel and rubber and other parts.

For the year I will be down 20% ish of the income I was at last year.

Economically it has not impacted me. I'm past tired though of the lack of social contact and things to DO. I'm bored silly most of the time. Winter does not help that.

But I refuse to complain about it (other than noting it here) as I have it good compared to several that I know that are on the ropes economically, have had their businesses destroyed, life dreams crushed, or have lost their sanity while trying to work from home and manage their kids in trying to do school work in this ridiculous remote learning format. It. Does. Not. Work .Competence by state and local governments in managing this is all but non-existent.

That is the thing that infuriates me to no end....people's lives and businesses destroyed and all these politicians are still drawing that fat ****ing paychecks. I'd like to see them go without for a while. They'd find solutions overnight.

I feel like this year was a big eye opener for a lot of people. Some realized how fragile their industry was to a crisis such as a pandemic. I'm fortunate enough to say that I've doubled my income this year, and will likely be the case going forward indefinitely as well (if not continue to grow). I also took advantage of the real estate classes/tests being purely online, and got my real estate license so I can save myself (and effectively pay myself) for my future real estate slum-lording ;)

Im expecting a FAT tax break from my state gov considering they arent providing one of the largest, most costly services my taxes are paying for (school).

I wont hold my breath..............

HA!

Surprised they aren't asking for more money to get all their virtual shit going.

My niece's classes were cancelled (and went virtual) for three weeks because the teacher was exposed to someone that was exposed to covid. Not exposed to someone that had the rona, exposed to someone that was exposed. My niece's teacher wasn't even tested... (leaving my personal thoughts out, just stating facts of situation)

the people who are hurting the most are hurting BAD while nerds like me who intentionally work in an industry where human to human contact is a minimum and its inherently stable due to the nature of our craft are having the best years of our lives.

my wife has a photography biz that has pretty much ended this year but we never depended on it so while she took a massive hit i've been saving gas money, collecting checks, and today refinanced the house for a 15 year 2.5% interest rate.

its mindblowing how polarizing this situation is but I think its because the people like me who don't turn wrenches for a living have no clue what the real world is actually like so they think this is sustainable so they shut everything down.

this is such hyperbolic madness.

We are good so far. The business the wife works for hasn't been impacted at all, neither negatively or positive, and she's been working the same since it all started. Occasionally she'll work from home, but she prefers to be in the office. She actually even got a raise this year.

I work for County government. We were completely shutdown for two full months, and I basically was told I could keep any schedule and work any hours I wanted to. I went in for a couple hours most days, a day here and there I didn't go in at all, and they continued to pay me my full salary. I was on call all the time, which I am anyway, so that was no different.....except there was no operations going other than public safety, which I don't cover, so I never once got anything urgent that I had to respond to.

On a social level, nothing really changed all that much for us. I have a friend who owns a bar, we continued to go there. We have friends of friends who own a campground about an hour away, we put our camper down there on a permanent spot for the year. We continued to do social events at the campground regularly, etc. We did miss out on a vacation to MI we had planned, but whatever, it's been 10 years since we took one, so it didn't feel like we were giving anything up really.

My only real issue is I have a very low tolerance for stupid people, so on that front, I've struggled a lot.

Luckily the trucking industry hasn’t been affected by any of this and I’ve been able to live life financially as usual. My girlfriend is a horse trainer and since people have so much free time now she’s been doing double the amount of lessons she normally would.

It’s unfortunate but our economy probably will never fully recover from any of this. NJ has thousands of restaurants throughout the state and a majority of them are inevitably going to close permanently.

The older i get, the more of an issue this becomes. My wife is always telling me to be nicer to people lol.

Funny thing is, even she is starting to get irritated with the idiots around us.
