I'm thinking about running Nitto NT555 Extremes(295/45/18) on a 18x10.5" rim out back and a (275/40/18) up front on a 18x9" rim.

These tires are priced well, have good reviews, last and seem to perform well.

My question is, we all know that the Nitto DRs run narrow and you can actually fit a 315mm on a 9" rim. Do the NT555's run narrow also??? Will the 295mm NT555's be too narrow for a 18x10.5 rim???

Bottom line is I want something wider then my stock 17x9" rims with Eagle 275's but at the same time I don't want a 295 that doesn't look right on a 18x10.5" rim???

Another question, does anybody out there run 17s up front with 18s out back??? Curious???

Please chime in...I need to order these tires fast!!!

Thanks...

Later...Dave

i believe teh 295/45's are to tall, they will fit in there but rub when taking turns

Are you saying I can only go with a 295/40/18 or lower profile out back???

G Force T/A KDW NT's come in a 295/35/18 but I don't like the the look of the thread!!!

Nitto NTO1's and Mich PS2's come in a 315/30/18 but will these fit??? Kinda expensive too, especially the PS2's at about $430 ea.!!!

I guess I've come to realize that it's slim pickins with 18" rims out back huh???

These are good questions. This should help.

Your 2003 SVT Cobra should have come stock with a 275.40.17 Goodyear that has a width of 10.9": http://www.goodyeartires.com/eagle/eagleF1AS_sizes.html

The Nitto 555 extreme 275.40.17 has a width of 11.02": http://www.nittotire.com/#index.tire.nt555.sizes

I gather that Ultimately you want a set-up that is wider up front than stock(without rubbing) and wider outback than stock (without rubbing) and you want to run 18x9's and 18x10.5's wheels. You also want to make sure the tire isn't too narrow for the wheel.

Front: In looking at the actual tire sizes in comparison to stock you should be able to run the 555 extremes in a 285.35.18 for the front on an 18x9" wheel with an offset around 20-25mm. The 285.35.18's are 11.3" overall width and are only .25" taller in overall diameter than the stock Goodyear tires. Use this size only if you choose a Nitto tire. There is a small chance that they will rub slightly at full lockout turns.

Now matching the rear is trickier as you have found. Ideally for the vehicle and width of wheel you have chose you want a 315.30.18. With the proper offset wheel you will be able to get these to fit but you will have to modify your rear fenders to prevent rubbing.

Im not all that good with tires and tire sizes. I know some but when it comes to matching up the profiles.. forget it.

So your saying that with
275/35/18 in the front and
315/30/18 in the rear would match up(with modification of the rear fenders)
What I mean by match up is that both tires have somewhat of the same looking profile.

when ever you stagger wheels and tire (wider rear, narrower front- some people don't know this term,no offense if you do) you want to try to maintain the same overall diamater. A 275.35.18 is: 25.57" OD, a 315.30.18 is: 25.51" OD.

275.35.18 Front
315.30.18 Rear (with some mods)
Would be the best options for the wheels that SCT2003 is wanting to run, performance wise.

275.40.17 is a great size for the front
315.30.18 (with mods) would be great for the rear.

You will notice a thicker side wall in the front than in the back if you run this set-up. I would be curious to see pics of this. With a little drop, You could try a smaller tire up front to minimize the side wall difference. A 255.40.17 might work for you but this will give you a little rake. Your Front Tire OD would be 1/2" smaller than the rear.
