2014 marks the 2nd Annual Battle at the Beach Dyno Challenge sponsored by Pro Dyno and Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords Magazine! Contestants were selected from a pool of those who sent in info and pictures on their vehicles, all hoping for a chance to hit the rollers to win the coveted Mustang Week trophy for the highest horsepower! With contestants ranging from V6's, to TT 3V's, to TT Coyote's to SC Coyote's we had plenty of stiff competition!
We started setting up the night before in anticipation of a huge crowd, and we weren't disappointed! The crowd started gathering around 8am for the official 9am start. Stephanie and Evan from MM&FF were on site to photograph the event as well as the entire Pro Dyno crew.
Contestants were given 3 pulls, taking the highest horsepower number out of the 3. Each car was given 5 minutes on the rollers, with cool down time and changes allowed to be made in between runs. Many contestants did 3 back to back pulls, while others chose to cool down their blowers with ice.
The top contestants were so close in horsepower numbers, it was unbelievable. Coming in second place was Megan Roberson's 06 Mustang GT powered by a Twin Turbo Coyote, built by Fastlane Motorsports in Raleigh. She put down an amazing 927.1RWHP, but due to the tires spinning on the dyno, that was all she had.
And coming in first place was Bobby Smith's 2006 Twin Turbo Mustang GT. Motor built by Pro Dyno, with Turbo work done by S&H Performance. Bobby's TT GT put down an awesome 927.8RWHP! Talk about a close competition for the top spot!
Congratulations to both of you!
We saw some of the baddest cars Mustang Week had to offer, and we couldn't be more excited about this new staple in the Mustang Week lineup of events! We want to personally thank all of the contestants for joining with us and showing off what their hard work could do! We look forward to Mustang Week 2k15, and what next years contestants have to offer!
