HI EVERYONE! I just purchased a 1998 Mustang Cobra. I have some questions and thought this would be the best place to ask them! I appreciate all info! First about the car. The car had a blown motor. The previous owner purchased a 01 cobra motor that came with the car. Just needs to be installed. My Questions are - Is this motor ( 01 ) compatible with the 98 Car. Is there anything I will need to change? I did some quick research is the ignition coil system the same on the 98 to 01? Also, what are some options for performance upgrades?! Thanks for the help!!!

Gear swap is very popular with N/A cobra guys, 4:10 usually.

    Not sure otherwise

Welcome and toss up a few pics of the new ride

The ignition coil setup is different for the motors. The 98 motor had dual coil packs and plug wires and the newer motor you have has coil on plug. There used to be a guy on here named “The Red Monster” who made a conversion harness.

Good luck and congrats on the car.

Can 96-98 valve covers be used and keep the coil packs?

Is the original engine still in the car? Is the factory engine bay harness still in the car?

Get some 96-98 coil packs and the new motor should fire right up. But the Redmonster makes a good product, hope He gets back to you.

I didn't know if I can bolt the 98 brackets and coils back up to the 01 engine?

Yes, you can use your original coil packs, wires, and valve covers on the 01 Cobra engine.
