That's what my teacher buddy is going to do when he retires next year. Down in Florida at some beach bar somewhere.

If I was retiring as a single man, you bet your ass that's what I would do.

Could also find that bartending gig and do both part time.

I like the idea of resort bar tender. The qualifications to be an all star employee are showing up on time and being sober.

You could also get a job working in the legal Cannabis industry in your state. Budtender or grow specialist should both be low stress.

5. What are your top 3 motivators in rank order?
6. What are your passions and interests?
7. What type of work culture do you enjoy?
8. Do you need additional benefits?
9. Will your current pension and investments hold up under inflation? If not what kind of income do you need to make? Do some stress testing analysis of your retirement income to see how it would hold up if we had 10 yrs of moderate to high inflation.
10. Where do you want to live?

Answer those and you will have weeded out 90% of the jobs that probably wouldn’t be a good fit. Good luck in your search and congrats on your pending retirement.

Excellent points to ponder. I don't want a desk job so that rules out many positions. My pension plan has great COLA's and with my retirement accounts I'm fine financially. I will be relocating to either NY or FL or PA next year to be near family. I would like a job with good health care insurance.

Unbelievable need for nurses, if you are up for it. Get your CNA in 2 months, and then get a 2 year nursing degree while working as a CNA.

Costco is a highly regarded employer. They would have decent benefits and flexible schedules. Not sitting at a desk and likely locations in all 3 states you listed.

I always thought automotive would be a good fallback since I like working on cars. I have a friend who was a service advisor for a long time and he made really good money. but he said it was one of the worst jobs he’s ever worked, long hours and constantly getting an earful from customers and mechanics.

I’m in collision repair. It’s a field in desperate need of techs, abs office staff. Fast track to money these days is actually becoming and estimator and if you want to go up from there work the management chain.

Have a few years to burn and like turning wrenches, hood with your hands, become a body tech. It’s almost a name your price field currently.

In the same industry, around here a good shop estimator are near or above 6 figures. Starting pay around 60k plus

I’m in Maryland and I have one estimator at the shop I run making between 4-5k every two weeks like clock work. I work for a MSO so we run a commission pay scale for estimators and at the local level we set base guarantee to get them in the door till they see the real checks. Currently booking appointments till march, it’s wild right now.

I also have techs making 23-24 an hour flat rate
