So my 215k mile Explorer started to worry me a bit, so I picked up something fun that would ease up on the Explorer's miles:

It's a 98 Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited. I've wanted one since I was a kid, and this 101k mile beaut popped up in my area, so I grabbed it. It has headers, 1.7 roller rockers, intake, gutted cat, and a Magnaflow TB, as well a a transfer case swap (stock was full time 4WD, now it can be shifted into 2WD). I also built a set of projector headlights for it and did a few other visual mods. I'm planning on a performance intake manifold and big TB, as well as a tune in the near future. Pic of the projectors:

Nice hood vent mod. Lol

Lol, I like it because the people who know know it's something special, and the people that don't just think I slapped Auto Zone vents on it.

Edit: A couple more pics.

I bought a parts 5.9 as well, lol:

Euro turn signals, I wanted something a bit different:

A little info for those that don't know the truck is, they made around 14,000 in 1998 only. They came in 3 colors, Deep Slate, Platinum, and Stone White. Instead of the normal 5.2 (318ci), Chrysler shoved the 5.9 (360ci) in these, which made 245hp and 345 lb ft. of torque. Stock it'll do 0-60 in around 7 seconds flat, and it was the fastest production SUV in 1998. It's kind of the precursor to the SRT8. The 5.9 has the aforementioned cheesy hood vents, different grille, different leather interior, different roof rack and side skirts.

oh hell YES! Those 5.9 limiteds were impressive trucks in the day, I believe they ran low 15's bone stock (which is on par with a gen 1 lightning).

Post some interior shots to

What projectors did you use?

Yeah man, it boogies, it just has zero traction off of the line (225s FTL). With the mods it'll lay waste to the tires if you simply give it too much throttle at a light. In the rain, it's borderline scary.

I just have mini D2Ses. I'm kinda pissed, both ballasts are bad and TRS has to send me new ones (apparently the new Morimotos had some design flaw where they failed in cold weather, and now both of mine will not fire the first time you give them power). Here's a close-up of the headlight. I bought ones with lines on the inside of the lens and polished out the center for that OEM look. I got the truck with POS plug and plays, and I've found I just can't have a car without a proper HID set-up (I'm spoiled). Here's some headlight pics:

Good looking Jeep. I considered buying a 5.9 at one time, but clean low'ish mileage examples are damn tough to find. Still wouldn't mind having one.

Yeah, mine will roll 1/4 million miles next month.. 46re never rebuilt, motor hasn't even had the valve covers off either..

I am on there, under the same user name as I have here

If you see my "build thread" on there, you'll see the sad. Mine went into a ditch around October. Trashed it. So now i'm just rocking this one for the winter, and getting one from the south later. Sad, its never failed me and is seriously the best driving jeep I've ever owned

We have one that has full exhaust and it's slow as he'll, 130k on it, goes good in the snow though, ours is black too, nice looking truck and definitely the precursor to the srt8....liking the lights

Got an '04 for my daily this past spring, only had 65k miles when I bought it, one owner. Loved the WJ Overlands with the 4.7HO ever since an ex of mine had one. It will definitely get up and go, even with 31's on it. I love the look of it lifted, but kind wish I had left it stock to be a better DD. I also grabbed a set of retrofitted headlights, but the dude didn't aim them very well unfortunately.

Congratulations! That '98 Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited looks to be in great shape. I have always liked pretty much all of the Grand Cherokees.
