Hi folks, just purchased a 2012 shelby, I use to own a 2004 cobra but sold it 15 years ago. With this shelby I noticed that the clutch doesnt seem to engage until my foot almost completely lets out the pedal, i recall in my 04 that it would start to engage a couple inches off the floor. Is this common for the 2012? The clutch doesnt seem to be slipping or any burning smell, just engages very late. Any advice?

Welcome to the Shelby club and congrats on your 2012 purchase. The clutch engagement point on a 2012 Shelby GT500 is high on the pedal from the factory. Some owners modify it by removing the clutch assist spring or installing an aftermarket pedal adjustment system to achieve a lower more comfortable engagement point.

I recommend you drive it stock for a while and let muscle memory occur.

Personally, I’ve gotten used to the OEM spring and like the higher release point when making 3-2 and 4-3 shifts at high revs.

Everyone (including me) shares from the perspective of what we are used to — which makes our opinions entirely subjective.

Yeah take that spring out, it's garbage. It may or may not help your issue but it in itself is garbage.

Vinnie, I’m going to remove the spring and drive it around a while .

I’ll circle back if I notice a difference (muscle memory will probably get used to it and not notice any difference).

cant see a spring up there. Is the spring only on the 13-14 shelbys?
After looking into this closer, it appears 2012 Shelby GT500 did not come with spring assist. If it did it be here as described in this pic from a 2013-14 GT500.

I have an '11 and it is similar. Definitely different feel than older clutches. I am used to it now and you will get used to it the more you drive it. I feel like these are the easiest manual cars i have ever driven. Wait until you experience the dreaded 1-2 shift grind. I have done all of the "remedies" and it has gotten better but still does it on occasion.

that’s the worse :( mine does that constantly. Anything actually make it better?
