A mild 408 fox with a decent 80, and nice chassis will make a demon or a gt500 look very slow for about $25k. When you get into factory cars needing the seats optionally pulled and slicks optionally installed and a race gas calibration and so on, sure it’s cool, but it’s not stock. This joke has played its course. Drag prep a new gt500 and it’ll run very close to demon times. 755hp tunes for race gas so let’s say 775hp with 3900lbs being dropped to 3825 by yanking the seats, and a better drag coefficient on a sticky tire will be a good match for 840hp and 4200lbs in my opinion. I could see the dodge still having an edge on trap speed by 2-3mph though, but the launch and elapsed time will be a drivers race. If anyone doesn’t like comparing modded cars, consider this. Would you rather face blowing up a $35000 engine in a 2018 demon or 2019 gt500 or rebuilding a mild 408 for $5k (on a high)? Would you rather melt a $4000 supercharger or grenade a $1500 turbo? Sheer a $2800 axle or a $700 one? You start drag racing a car, and the warranty goes goodbye unless you know a guy who knows a guy that’ll fit the manager at the dealer with walking papers or cement shoes. I’d personally rather build and tweak a home built 8 second Fox for $30-40k than start with an $80k car that has a warranty and resale value, and try to get 8’s out of a nice, well appointed and multifaceted car. Not to mention try going 9’s and 8’s with 4000lbs of car. My 03 cobra is 3400lbs that that took a lot of work to get there. How often do you see anyone getting a charger into the 8’s? People see 4300lbs and say f that. A neon with 600hp would be easier to get into the 9’s than a charger with 900hp.
