The land of commies and socialists!
I want to preface this thread by letting everyone know that it will probably come off as a rant. However there is an important question at the end that I'd like answered by my fellow Veterans here. I am genuinely curious as to where you all stand. I am also sorry for the long post and do appreciate those that take the time to read all of this.

I'd also like to say that while I've done and seen some crazy things I am literally a nobody in the eyes of the military. I am no hero nor am I special by any means.

I have contemplated making this thread for about a week. As the situation in Afghanistan has deteriorated I've continued to grow more and more angry. I am nothing short of appalled at what has transpired with this haphazard pull out of Afghanistan. I guess I've finally been pushed over the edge after some of the events of the last two days.

I joined not long after 9/11 in April of 2002. I did 12 years before being pushed to the breaking point and chose not to raise my right hand again. It is still to this day the hardest decision I've ever made. Had things been slightly different I'd still be in but looking back I don't regret it.

I still keep in contact with friends from those days. They call me when they are having a hard time and I do the same. I've had conversations that go on for hours. I've asked and been asked the question that if we had another 9/11 type event would you go back?

The answer has always been yes for both my friends and I. Even with all the crap we've been seen, done and been put through we would always go back if we saw the need and there was still gas in the tank. We may not go back to our old jobs or branch but we would go back and contribute some how.

Now after watching the botched pullout this administration has started, hanging our military out to dry and essentially signing the death warrants of United States citizens I can't do it.

I haven't had a chance to talk to my friends about my reversal but I am sure they feel the same.

Never again will I raise my right hand! I am forever done!

I never imagined that a president would commit such atrocities towards his own military and citizens. If whoever is running Joe is capable of doing this then it is possible it will happen again and I want no part of it.

Yes I know that when you're in neck deep shit that all that matters in those moments is the guy next to you and your job. Trust me, I've been there on several occasions, I know first hand like many of you.

However now it's far far above that for me. These ****s in the white house have found a new low to drag our military to. I thought Obama was a serious POS but this dip shit in office and his cohorts have far surpassed him. These embarrassing, brain dead imbeciles have proven they have no problem casting us off and feeding us to the sharks. They give even less ****s than I thought possible and their actions prove it.

So here I am, gas still in the tank with a middle finger and complete refusal to play the game ever again.

I know some of you are retired and flat out can't go back and that understandable.

However if shit hit the fan would you go back if needed taking into account the recent events?

For me it's an obvious hard no.

It would be for God and country,..................not the dick heads in charge..
I understand the God and country part however from my perspective country no longer matters. Any work or good done is easily wiped out with bone head decisions like this. That's where I am stuck.

To each his own but I can't put my ass on the line again when we have administration's like this.

OP...here are my qualifications to respond. 30-years active duty USAF, enlisted in 1982 and trained to become a C-130 Loadmaster and later swapped over to the C-17. Retired with 6,000 flight hours and 1,200 of those were flown in Combat in Iraq and Afghanistan and other shitholes. Worked my way up from E-1 to E-9 and held several key positions at the Squadron, Group, and Wing Level. My last few years were served as a Command Chief Master Sergeant. I was 1 of 90 in the entire USAF. I tell you that not to brag about my accomplishments but to qualify my answer.

Along my journey I worked under great Leaders and those who should have never been in charge of anything. Notice I did not say I served the Leaders I worked for. I served the USA, the Flag, and what we stand for. Nothing else mattered. Leaders / supervisors / commanders / Presidents come and go. They only impact for a very short time. Many times during my 30-year career, I could have tossed in the towel due to stupid decisions up the chain. When I faced those obstacles I always turned to the original reason I enlisted to serve in the military. I kept focused on the mission and to take care of the men/women on my Team.

IMHO: The current POTUS is nothing but a puppet directed on what to say and how to respond. I believe he suffers from early onset dementia. Why does he hold the most powerful office on this planet? How was he elected? What damage has he done and what is he going to do in the next few years? How could he have screwed up the withdraw and gave up Bagram prior to leaving that shithole? Why would he put us in that position? Who gives a flying @uck. It is not about who is in charge. It is about something much bigger...and if you don't understand that...why did you join in the first place.

Yes...if given the chance to back up my clock and strap on my boots I would be proud to put on my uniform and serve again for as long as I could. That is what I did the first time around.

I got out in 2019 for many reasons. But for sure one of them was my dissatisfaction with the direction the country is headed both socially and politically. I feel like the last couple of weeks has only reinforced my decision. I have nothing but good memories from when I was in, but the direction leadership has taken the military is appalling.

To answer your question I joined because of 9/11. Because it was time for me to do something that mattered beyond something that only benefited me. It was time to do something about things in the world. Yes I was also angry at what had happened.

Back when I was still serving you're right, it didn't matter who was in the white house but now for me it does.

Op, as a Fed employee that is dealing with dipshit in charge’s other cluster ****, I understand your feelings.

Best analogy I can come up with is getting told to dig a ditch in the morning, and then being told to fill it in that afternoon.

Then do it again tomorrow.

Morale is horrible.

So frustrating and such a shame.

I hear you, brother, and agree with you. I served in the Navy (4 years) in the late '60s and everything was so different back then. For the most part we all had a great pride in living in and serving the United States. That included our leaders. Today, we have a multitude of political and social issues fighting to unravel the very fabric of what's left of this great country. JMO.

My MOS was 15T. Blackhawk Mechanic. You probably just read that and said WTF? Keep reading and I'll explain a little more.

During my 12 years I spent roughly 3 of them as air crew to include deploying to Afghanistan doing Medevac.

In that deployment I witnessed the absolute horrors of war. I've picked up everything from people having minor broken bones to those clinging to life and even some who were gone before the 9 line dropped. I don't wish some of the things I've seen on my worst enemy because at times it was that horrific.

That is where this thread is really coming from. This administration has done nothing short of completely disrespect the efforts of those that will never be made whole and those that payed the ultimate sacrifice.

To me at this point in time it was all for nothing. The literal blood, sweat, tears and lives all for nothing. The actions of this administration leaving the way they did, leaving people, service dogs and rebuilding the taliban has genuinely brought a tear to my eye.

After 5 years and a couple deployments I wouldn't go back. Not for this white house that's for sure. Some people in this country appreciate what we do and to those that don't... wouldn't piss on em of they were on fire

I'm retired with 4 trips to the Middle East totalling 3 years. I was in Club Med(Bahrain) and seen nothing like you have. Thanks for your service, much respect. But I think I can put your mindset into perspective with a few questions.

1. What would all of our men and woman in uniform as well as our allies that paid the ultimate price think about the outcome of this war?
2. What do the families of all those who paid the ultimate price think about the outcome of this war?

In the end....is Afghanistan a better place for all the sacrifices? Worse? I think there is enough behind the scenes that we are not privy to that would really piss us off. It was a horrible draw down and now we are hated by our allies and viewed untrustworthy for it.
So YES, it makes a difference at least to me as it obviously does to you what my goal is if I were to tie my boot laces back up. We can be used for good, bad effectively or ineffectively depending on who is shouting the orders. You're pissed off and rightfully so, many of us are. We just got slapped in the face by our own Government. The fall-out from this will be terrible. The difference between this and Vietnam? No Clue.

Maybe it's because I wasn't in YOUR military.
I enlisted in 1967, you remember the draft ?
Got out in 1972, enlisted again in 1973, retired in 1989.
The military has changed over the years, & maybe not for the best, the WOKE stuff @ the top will be it's demise !!

I would for the correct leaders, but those seem short lived. What happened was by design in Afghanistan. It’s a terrible deal for our country… that’s the short version. The greed and the sellout is unfathomable and it will destroy us as we know it. This is just the start. Multiple reasons why it was done this way. Redirect away from election audits, re-arm Obama’s taliban. Favors to China, both in technology from equipment left behind and they will mine natural resources for electric cars that we will buy. Sounds like tin hat shit but they aren’t even hiding it. Head puppet just does what his handlers tell him and he even says it.
