Just heard about it leaving work. I grew up around that time and with the country struggling with the civil rights movement and Vietnam, the space program was a shining spot in human history.
To all the astronauts.from the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo programs, you were all my heroes growing up.and are still that today.
    Godspeed Mr. Armstrong.

Pretty sick generation we live in where we live up to people like Kim Kardashian, Justin Bieber, or felon professional athletes, Yet heros like this get almost no publicity. I can't remember the last time I heard about Niel till now, yet he's accomplished so much with his life.

What a disgrace the media is.

Not that I'm happy he's gone but it's nice to see that he got to live to a ripe old age. Can't really be sad about it because he lived a good life and hopefully passed away peacefully.

I would love to see Justin Bieber placed in a rocket and launched into space.

    RIP Mr. Armstrong.

he was one hell of a pilot and hero to many. i was glad to see him in the transformers movie. he looked really healthy for his age, i figured he would of stayed with us longer, but he still lived a great long life. RIP Mr. armstrong aka...the first moonwalker :)

Even though most people only remember him for his being the first man to walk on the Moon he was much more.
He was a Naval Aviator and flew combat in Korea. Risking his life daily.
After that he became a test pilot and flew in just about every type of experimental and test aircraft there was.
Then he became a member of the "Man in Space Soonest" program and got to be the Man in the Can for the DYNASOAR lifting body program, which evolved into the Space Shuttle program years later.
He was in the Gemini space program and was the Command Pilot during the first spacecraft docking ever performed.
And of course, the flight he is most remembered for is his hand controlled landing on the Moon.
A true hero, he never beat his own chest about his many accomplishments.
    He didn't need to.
    Godspeed Neil Armstrong.
