As the title states, I keep seeing on my security camera the neighbor is walking his dog (lab) into my front yard to take a dump, to be fair its not always mine, but he walks through my yard and several of the other neighbors yards and his dog usually picks mine to do his business.

I'm a big dog person but my kid plays in the front yard and I hate having to keep an eye out for these massive piles of smelly dog crap in my yard. I take my dog out back in the woods to do her business but it drives her crazy when we walk out and she is smelling this other dog all over the yard.

I'm not typically a confrontational person over petty stuff, and I don't want to start issues in the neighborhood that's gonna result in vandalism or something else.

Suggestions? I've added a few in a poll to choose from or make your own.

Teach your kids not to play with pooh.

When I was a kid picking up dog shit after your dog was unheard of. As kids when we seen dog shit we avoided it.

    1. Just ask them to pickup the dog shit in a nice way/non pissed off way. See what happens.
    2. Don't talk to them, pickup the dog shit and smear it on their car and house door handles and throw the remaining on their roof or stuff it in their exhaust pipes.
    3. Shoot them next time the dog does it and claim you were standing your ground.

Talk to him about it. Have some pride, it's your property. Just try to be calm and collected about it.

Definitely confront him and say you have it on security cam. Knowing that you have security cam is going to deter him from anything else.

I got one of the motion activated water sprayers to keep my neighbors cats out of the yard.

    This.

You could also add a sign that states “Please keep your dog curbed. Thanks.”

Now, if the guy is an asshole, set up a sprinkler or similar to spray when he gets close with his dog and make sure and record for our enjoyment.

Talk to the man like a man. I watched one guy's dog take a shit on my lawn but the owner didn't notice because he was ahead of the dog. When they came back the other way, I asked him to pick it up. He said "I don't think that's from my dog, but whatever". Yup. Whatever. I ****ing HATE people who let their dogs shit on other people's property without picking it up.

Just talk to him. Keep it friendly. In 99% of these cases, the owners don't know what the animal is doing.

If he gives some BS excuse like "well you cant prove anything" or "well its an animal and they roam" (common cat-person excuse) then simply continue to press the issue in a civil manner. I can't stress enough how important it is to remain civil in this situation.

It sucks, talking with the neighbor about pet issues is a double-edged sword. You feel like you're doing the right thing, but then if anything happens to the animal they suspect you first. That's why I say, be careful.

"Hey, I was hoping we could talk about an issue that has been occurring lately. I've noticed that there are a lot of dog droppings in my yard, so I put up a camera and determined that your dog is the culprit. I'm sure you probably aren't even aware that it is happening, but I'd like it if we can come up with a solution that prevents that from happening."

Normally I would agree that someone may not know what their dog/animal is doing, but he has him on a leash 3 feet away. The dude is literally standing in my yard watching his dog dump out and then walking off lol

I would recommend against that. Unless you live out in the boonies and have a conscience with an off switch, that method opens the door for people to accuse you of intentionally poisoning animals, especially if someone catches you doing it.

Not to mention it's a slow painful death for the animal.

Honestly, go to Home Depot, buy a "you're on camera" sign, and stick it in your front yard. It may piss him off enough to where he stops.

So you punch pregnant ladies AND poison dogs.

    I'm not surprised.

Ah, then skip the friendly "I'm sure you probably don't know" part of what I wrote earlier. If he gives you crap over it (no pun intended), print out pictures of him doing it, send it to all neighbors including him stating "this is unacceptable behavior in our neighborhood, please pick up after your animals"

Simple, to the point. Whatever you do, don't abuse the dog.
