I took a trip up north this weekend with some friends and I cannot for the life of me figure out how much gas money is equally divided. I know it’s probably an easy algebra equation but I keep mind-f*cking it every time I try to figure it out in Excel.

There was (4) of us in the car; Sean, Kara, Will and Kevin. Will paid $46 and Sean paid $50. I need help figuring out how much money each person owes who so that all (4) people have equally contributed.

Thanks :beer:

Total Gas = $96
Divided by 4 passengers = $24 a piece

Since Sean paid $50, he paid $26 more than necessary.
Since Will paid $46, he paid $22 more than necessary.

If Sean gives Will $2, they will both have over paid $24 more than necessary. So now, Kara and Kevin have underpaid by $24, so they each pay one of you $24.

$96 in total gas

amongst 4 people would be $24 a person.

Will and Sean Overpaid

So Kara pays Sean $24 - making Kara even at $24 paid

Kevin pays Will $22, making Will even at - $24 (46-22)
Kevin then pays his remaining 2 dollars to Sean - making Kevin (22+2) and Will (50-24-2) even.

Uhhh, no......

Kara owes Will $22 and owes Sean $2
Kevin owes Sean $24.

This:
You might just be making it harder than it is, to clarify:

total is 96, 24 each

will paid 46, needs 22
sean payed 50, needs 26

Kara can pay will 22 and sean 2

will is taken care of, kara is paid up.

Kevin can pay sean his 24

We do this easier with my friends, we rarely pay each other back like that.
You paid gas? i'll get groceries.
it's never exactly even but nobody cares.

96/4=24 per person.

The two who didn't pay put up a pool of $48.00, they're individual $24.00 shares.

Will paid $46.00, so he gets $22.00 from the $48.00 pool, leaving $26.00 in the pool.

Which

Just happens to be the amount Sean is owed to bring his cost to $24.00.

You don't have to thank me. Just doin' what I can for my SVTP homies.

I'm assuming you (collectively) spent 96$ in gas money and that the vehicle was full upon the beginning of said trip.

Sean (S) paid 50$
Will (W) paid 46$
Kara (Ka) and Kevin (Ke) didn't pay shit.

S+W+Ka+Ke = 96

S+W=96-Ka+Ke.

For an equal share amongst 4 people:

S=W=Ka=Ke = 4P

4P = 96
P = 96/(4) = 24$ per person.

Sean needs to give Will 2$
Kevin needs to give Sean(or Will) 24$
Kara needs to give Will(or Sean) 24$

It depends Will could have piitb to Kara therefore Kara already paid Will. Kara could have given a handy therefore paying the $2. And Kevin could have given Sean a hummer. But who really knows.
