need assist: largest tire to mount on stock rims

guys .. please help me to decide:

I'm looking to purchase new shoes for the snake & wondering if I should stick with the same size tires (245/45-17)..or if I can go with a larger size. Also..any suggestions regarding brand of tire (looking at BF Goodrich g-Force Sport).

A fellow 'stanger (at work) is trying to talk me into 275's all way around....but another bud tells me to stick with OEM 'cause that's what the manufacturer recommends (for safety, etc).

Another (expensive) option is to purchase wider rims. I realize this may be my best bet.

Please advise.

275/40R17s on my 9 in.
Actually 315/35R17s on the rear. Nittos are the only ones that seem to work.

ok, thx Dale.....you have 9" & I have the stock 17x8 wheels.

Maybe 275's aren't recomended for 17x8's
