2001 Ford Escape is where it’s at. It’s my daily. Came with a factory tow hitch. I paid 1,000.00 for it with 125,000 miles on it. One owner, sun roof, leather, 4wd. 3.0 v6.

Any older escape, I wouldn’t think twice about getting. 2012 and under.

I love the thing! No kidding!

Unfortunately Honda V6 auto transmissions of that generation are not reliable. The Honda dealer I worked at years ago replaced 3-4 a day on Pilots, Ridgelines and Odyssey's.

@nxhappy If the idea of a Prius is... disturbing, a less demeaning version is the Lexus CT200h. I leased one for 4 years and I averaged 38MPG. Thats with me driving with my foot buried in the accelerator everywhere I went. It has a surprising amount of cargo capacity with the rear seat folded too.

EDIT: links work, pages are available lol

Heres one for $10k

My old dealer Earnhardt Lexus has one for sale:

The ridgeline doesn't have trans issues. I looked into them for some time, it's a beefed up trans. There's no stories of them failing.

I'd recommend a 2011-2013 Hyundai Elantra. I have a 2013 Ltd with 190k. It's good on gas and extremely reliable. The only problem I had was a front wheel bearing went out at just over 100k. The other one is original. I'm still on the OE F/R brakes, shocks/struts. I've only replaced tires, batteries, spark plugs. A couple of months ago, the serpentine belt was replaced for the first time.

Just like with any used car, the fewer owners the better and a verifiable service history is preferred.
