Don't listen to everybody, 1911's are easy to carry, you just need the right gear. I carry an aluminum commander or a stainless 5" every day. You need a good holster and a belt and you will forget you even have one on. I also carry an extra magazine to get around the small round issue. I recommend a Milt Sparks Nexus or Versa Max holster and a belt with a stiffener added. I wear one of Al Childress' hand made leather belts. He's made dress belts for me too. I'll never wear a store bought belt for carry or otherwise ever again. The belt will make the biggest difference in something that is easy to carry or not. There are two 1911's worth buying (i.e. that are any good). Colt and Springfield. I hear Ruger makes a good one too. Whatever you do....do not buy a Kimber. They are well known for their problems. Also avoid anything with an external extractor. Good luck.
