A10 vs ZF8...that's a heavy one. Right off the bat, the A10 just feels busy. Unless you are at a steady cruise, its always doing something. The ZF8 never felt like a trans with too many gears, and besides not liking to shift below 4th at low speeds, it was pretty well thought out and programmed. Moderate acceleration in the 10 speed results in really inconsistent shifts with the stock tune. 1-2 may be smooth then 2-3 is super firm, then 3-4 is different again, etc. All with the same throttle input. If you vary throttle input throughout the acceleration run, it gets even weirder. You'll get some weird double shifts and skipped shifts, etc. The ZF8 never had those issues, always just performed like a traditional auto as far as driver feedback was concerned. Paddle behavior between the 2 is similar, although I have noticed some pretty heavy delays using the paddles on the 3-4 and 5-6 shifts in the A10, but so far only at part throttle, and i have no interest in paddling at WOT. And speaking of WOT, clearly that's where the A10 shines. The ZF8 was no slough, and even the factory programming performed really well at WOT, and was even better with some simple tune tweaks. The A10 in stock programming is on point. Shifts are nice and firm and firmer in sport/sport+/track, but I don't love the feel of those dragstrip mode shifts. They'll have to show some improvement at the track for me to believe in them. Hoping to hit the track Wednesday to see how well the A10 can perform.
