So at 17,500 miles i have completed my first 1000 mile cycle with no change in dip stick reading.

here's a quick history

Brought new 12 GTCS M6 in March of 2012. Had 119miles on the clock and ticked from day one.

Used Factory fill for 2,500 miles and burned 1,000mL per 1,000 miles in that time (refilled with 5w-20 Motorcrap)

At 2,500m switched to Moble 1 full syn 5w-20 (actually not full syn, but i didnt know that at the time) and i burnt a very consistant 1,700mL per 1,000miles.

At 6,500 miles i switched to Amsoil 5w-30 and my consumption was constant at 800mL per 1,000miles

Then at 16,000 miles i switched again to amsoil 10w-30 and my consumption has finally stopped.

I am actually at 1,600 miles on this latest fill and have not burned a drop. And for the past thousand miles i have been averaging 11-13mpg so been driving it very hard.

Anyways was pretty stooked about it, thought i would share!

Doing some forum research looks like lots of mustangs burned oil for the first 10-15K miles, so i am right in the band for my consumption to stop. Cant say if it was the oil or not, but i can say the Moble 1 burned the most!

good to hear. I recently switched to amsoil 10w30 ss @ 9k miles and have no smoking at idle nor oil consumption after running approximately 500 miles. 5w20 is a joke.

The 5w20 Ford switched over to makes minimal change in MPG to a single car, but the overall effect of this across the entire vehicle line up is huge and what helped many MFG's get through stricter CAFE requirements for fuel consumption.

mine went though a little under a quart per 1000mi when I bought it new. After about 7-8k miles it stopped and now it barely goes through any between oil changes :)

strang is i have spirit driven my 2011 built june of 2010 and baby it for gas mileage. AVG of 24 plus with city and highway combined.
Mine runs well and i have other faster cars.
Mine had 600 when new, got the free quick lube oil change at 1400miles and changed it at 3000 miles with NAPA full synthetic. This is the cheap oil sold by NAPA but is valvoline. It goes on sale for 3.49 a quart so i bought 20 cases for the life of the motor.

You really are bunring 1000 ml of oil on break in? WOW! mine barely has burned any oil at any time, but i dont have any "ticks" , thats 1 litre of oil!

Have you done any compression checks?

Mine when new did smoke some at start up, but i do not drink oil like yours.

Id be worried about oil consumption with any type of oil, just wondering why you think certain types of oil might mask a issue?

I had sworn by Amsoil 10w-30 SS for the past 10,000 miles in my 2012 GT. My oil consumption had stopped after the first oil change with RP 10w-30 at 4,000 miles though. Glad to see it worked out great for you OP!

Glad to hear you are happy with Amsoil ATM 10W-30. It's the #1 choice from the Signature Series line up for muscle cars that are driven hard. You only have to change your oil once a year using it, up to 15,000 miles.

There is an upgrade for higher power applications (over 600 rwhp), but you would have to change your oil every 6 months or 5,000 miles. Amsoil RD30 10W-30

I use Amsoil SS 10w-30 and will continue to use this for the life of my motor.

Smart man

which is ironic since I'm getting better mpg with the heavier amsoil.

Correct, the superior true synthetic base stock has a lower frictional coefficient, less friction, less heat, more efficiency.

Why don't the auto manufacturers jump on this band wagon? It's not cheap.

I'm at 1200 mile on my 13 and the oil has stayed at the first hash mark done since I got it. Hopefully I get lucky and have no consumption issues!

Just bought my 14 GT.... I'll probably be switching to Amsoil 10w30 on my first change.

What filter are you guys using? OEM?

Long time Mobil 1 user here... After hours and hours of researching and reading testimony from many who have tried A, B, and C oil, I have decided to change over to Amsoil SS 10w-30. Also swapping out my 5K mile OEM transmission fill to Amsoil Synchromesh on my '11.... Much thanks to Unleashed Beast for his wealth of info!

So 5w20 is only for gas mileage? Sorry don't know much about oil. I've had no oil consumption or leaking. Should I still make the switch to 10w30 amsoil? Did the ticking stop as well James?
