Did you get the ecu and tune issue fixed? If not I'm guessing you'll end up in the same position.

Well, pumps are at 90% and AF is good, but when winter came around, it started getting detonation under boost, I did some research and it seems that during the winter, the gas has more additives to make it atomize and combust more easily for colder weather. So my assumption is that the tune had timing that was a little too advanced for the fuel? I put 32oz of torco in every tank now and it doesnt have any of those issues.

Now for the troubling part. I bought the engine from ford, had a few hiccups with it. The first being that before I put anything together, I noticed an O-Ring that was cut from the person that assembled the motor. Then, after putting the entire engine together, the last things to install were the motor mounts, which to my surprise, didn't go in without a hitch. There were 2, not just 1 but 2 bosses out of 3 for the drivers side motor mount that had damaged or missing threads. After fixing those issues, I got the motor installed in the car and it ran perfect. Drove it for about 500 miles then drove it home on a 700 mile trip. Then the motor started making a noise, all before I ever got into the throttle and took it through some RPM. Its not one that i've ever heard before. It almost sounds like some marbles going down a metal pipe. It does it just a faintly when its cold, and when its warmed up and turned off for a little bit but not allowed to cool off, it does it even worse. And when its warm, I mean, like a 20 minutes of driving or more warm, it runs perfectly. It almost sounds like valvetrain noise, but you cant hear anything coming from the valve covers. Anyway, its very frustrating, and I have already started the warranty process with ford. And if anyone has any experience with a strange noise like that, or with dealing with the warranty through ford, any input would be appreciated.

I don't have any pictures of the install, but here's the whipple all bolted up and running. Now I have to finish with the fuel pumps and get it tuned. 600whp or bust!

Did you ever find out what the issue was with the old setup?

It was a combination of an aggressive tune, my abuse, and being a tad ignorant with the architecture of this motor. I ran it out pretty hard when it blew, and the fact that I didn't have a tune to compensate for that sort of driving and me abusing it a bit by running 5th gear out didn't help.

Haha, yeah, it sucked. And thanks man, I love surprising people in it, I know it's not the fastest thing, but there aren't too many cars that pick on me that have any clue what they are up against. Surprisingly, it was pretty well poised with the tire/wheel combo at 460 hp, I am curious to see how it is when it's a tad closer to 600.

Hats off to you man that is an amazing transformation

Thanks man, there's another guy on here with a Bullitt that did nearly the exact thing I did, I love the sleeper aspect of it all, and when it's done cleanly, I think it just adds to it.

She hit the dyno today. I installed my BAP and my own wire upgrade. Made 590whp and 520ftlbs.

Hey Comp,

This is such an amazing build. It's definitely one hell of a sleeper being that you left the GT exterior on it. Do you mind if I take a few of these pictures and use them on a social media post for Sinister Mustang? I'd love to collage together a few pictures and post it up!

Let me know,

Thanks,

- Michael

Thanks guys... and sinister, I don't mind.. just let me know where you're doing it, wouldn't mind seeing it up on something like that. Massie, it's collecting dust. it needs to have one of the pistons swapped out, and I'll give you all the extras I have. So with that, it just needs to be rerigned. I'm down to sell it though. Just let me know when you want it. Lol

Wow! Thanks for picking MagnaFlow for your build. This is definitely the kind of incredibly ambitious project we like to see.

So, it was long overdue, but I finally took the car to get tuned. I brought it to the guys at Extreme Performance in Goodyear AZ, they are an awesome shop and know their stuff! Well, after messing with it they got me a safe tune for now. But we suspect the PCM was messed up by the Diablo piggyback chip that was in it when I did the swap. When the programming commands a specific A/F ratio, only one bank does it, the other is going rich. We tried completely reflashing the PCM, and that didn't help. Anyway, the result was 450hp and 466ftlbs to the wheels. Less peak hp, and more peak tq than it was before, but drivability is off the charts! If anyone has seen this issue, and can offer up a suggestion, it would be greatly appreciated.

My 02 Gt was doing something similar. I replaced the front 02's with Bosch sensors and then a few months later the car started running bad. I have an A/F gauge in the Drivers side exaust pipe and it was reading ok and the car would set the CEL but it would run like hell. I finally decided to replace the passenger 02 sensor with a Motorcraft unit and voila it's fixed. I have yet to replace the drivers side 02 sensor but it is on my list of stuff do soon. I am speculating that the passenger side 02 was reading incorrectly because there were a few times that I got a misfire code from Bank 1 running too rich that it was trying to foul the plugs on that side and then the drivers side bank ran perfectly. I am not saying this is your issue but if you aftermarket 02 sensors then you may want to look in to it.
