Alright as some may have saw my old thread about my cars shutter issue when turning from a stop or very low speed. Well I took it into Ford again finally (different dealer) and they looked at the car and informed me that my differential is the heavy duty carbon diff found in the Track Pack option. Now from my understanding the C/S cars didn't have that as an option? I even checked my vin and there was indication on the window sticker of it having it either simply stated the standard rear with 3.15 gears. Is it possible the previous owner swapped the rear diff in? According to the dealer its not uncommon for that rear end to shutter like that.

They even showed me this service bullentin stating so:

2011-14 Mustang GT equipped with BREMBO brake package. These vehicles are equipped with a heavy duty/racing carbon fiber clutches in the LSD. This type of LSD may exhibit a chatter or moan/groan noise when making sharp low speed turns. These noises are a normal characteristic of the heavy duty/racing type LSD. Note: Driving the vehicle in a tight figure eight pattern 5 times may lessen the complaint for a short period of time.

My car does not have brembo brakes which is why I was curious plus the window sticker states nothing. Yet the dealer said it does have it because that's what they saw when they looked at the rear diff and opened it up.

I'm the second owner, the diff cover doesn't even look like the cover that comes on the track pack cars just looks like the regular one to me.

Im leaning towards previous owner swapped the differential itself and that's it?

More than likely the previous owner simply swapped in the carbon fiber clutches. There is a service kit available from Ford for all 8.8 rear ends. I used this kit in my 94 f-150.My 13' Mustang only has 2600 miles and has done the one wheel peel at the track a couple times so I'll be swapping the clutches in it soon as well.

The Track Pack cars also have a painted housing, you can sort of see it on mine.

I have a 2011 Brembo pkg. I was going to swap to the Shelby clutch packs. Using that kit but was told not to because I already have it... I'm at 30,000 so I'm about to dump the rear end anyway. I'll let you know for sure... I don't notice chatter.. but I know if you don't have the friction modifier in thete you'll get that. (The friction modifier actually allows slip)

Yeah mine for sure does not have the painted housing.

Mine has a 3.73 with carbin discs. I know 373 are standard on cs
Mines an automatic, pretty sure its just 315s in mine but who knows at this point haha.

Sounds good, I need to add some to mine see if it helps it out.

The little easter egg Ford gave all 3.73 buyers is the Shelby carbon clutches, regardless of what model it is in, other than the TP cars already mentioned. There should be no chatter. If you think maybe it is the rear, adding a 1/2 bottle of Ford friction modifier should make the issue go away. If it doesn't, something else is up. I say 1/2 because there is some in there, or the lsd would be moaning like a porn star.

Alright, had the car at Ford one more time and the master tech and even service manager both drove the cars at different times about 15mins or so each. The said the shudder/moan I am hearing is perfectly normal for this car due to the heavy duty carbon differential it has. They even looked at the diff and saw nothing wrong anywhere.

So I guess its just normal for these or 2011s to do this? Sometimes its not that bad but others mostly sharp turns at idle/very low speeds it seems to shudder or moan the worst or loudly. Guess I should just leave it be? Or maybe add some friction modifier to help quiet it? Thoughts? Car is a A6 btw Premium California Special.

I'd try adding some fm for 10 bucks / 30 minutes worth of work. Good excuse for a Detroit locker if it still bothers you.

The Track Pack has a Torsen T2 diff, so no clutches, not sure where they got the carbon description from.

Are you the original owner of the vehicle?
that is not true the T2 was an option upgrade. the standard for track pack was the Carbon fiber clutch pack same as the GT500 and boss.

The Track Pack cars also have a painted housing, you can sort of see it on mine.

most have the painted but some did not for some reason. it may have been a supply issues when the cars were being built.

I may just go get a bottle of FRICTION MODIFIER from Ford and add it in see if it helps. Question though, how do you add it? I know how to drain gear oil out but how do you add the modifier without draining the stuff thats already in there? Driving the car last night the noise and shuddering got so bad that my friend and I returned home and took his car. Ive come to terms that the diff is fine so my next guess is the oil and need of FM to help quiet it. After that Im lost on whats going on if it doesnt help.

Or should I just drain all of it out and add new gear oil with some ford FM?

I don't know what diff cover you have but there's a fill bolt on the front drivers side of the pumpkin. The finned diff cover also has a fill bolt (the top one). If it's as bad as it sounds, I'd swap out the fluid too. Here's a how to linky...

My 03 Cobra did the shuddering and vibrating with stranges noises during turning at low speeds. It also would shake like hell during freeway speeds. It got worse and worse and it was a pain in the ass to convince the dealership something was wrong. After muiltiple attempts the forman went for a ride with me and told me the packs were bad and replaced the diff. The problem went away immediatley. Thought I would share. I hope it gets fixed soon!
