My motor is cooked ,and I'm planning on pulling it and rebuilding it (if possible) or just finding another motor.2 mechanics who have listened to the knocking sound pressume rod knock as it is very loud comming from the bottom of the engine, and the knock gets repeatedly faster when given gas.If the block is good I plan on rebuilding it by doing at least the following:
Forged rods and pistons
Rings
Bearings
ARP head and mains
All gaskets
New chains
New oil pump
New valve springs
New lifters
Machine work of course?
What does a bore benefit me with ?

I've been told I most likely need a new crank if its something to do with the rods.

I'm not looking for nothing crazy power wise, gonna leave the stock eaton after rebuild but would like to eventually upgrade to a 2.3 whip or 2.6 kb along with supporting mods but right now I'd like to build the motor now that its coming out, like I said if possible. I plan on doing teardown and reassembly by myself.

This would be the first time I've ever pulled or opened a motor,What do you guys think? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as always.

Side note: I would love to just order a built longblock from JLP,JDM, or any of those other vendors but I don't think it'd be smart for me to drop all that money right now as I start school next year. However I do understand I gotta pay to play.

Before you jump to any conclusions, you need to get the oil pan off and confirm the diagnosis. Odds are it’s a rod bearing but it you caught it early enough you may be able to save the crank by having it ground undersize or maybe just polished.

There is a first time for everything for every one. YouTube and manuals are you friends refer to both often, cross check one against the other. You will need access to some special tools as well

I'm assuming the worst but you're absolutely right , on the way home today from the second mechanic the truck stalled out when i got home 2 feet before parking it where usually park . It turned on again but didn't sound good at all . If it's a rod bearing i need to tear it down anyways that's why im jumping to conclusions.

if you want a chance at saving the crank step one is stop driving the damned thing.

there is no worthwhile advantage to over boring it, go the minimum amount needed to clean up the cylinders.

I dont recall if the billet oil pump gears are recommended on the 2 valve or not, but might also look into one of the higher volume oil pump options. While it's apart would also be the time to lock n stitch the heads and such if feel compelled to do so.

if you're doing the timing chains then guides and tensioners would be smart as well.
