This fleet I interviewed at had no baseline for their fleet at all. I was asked if I could write a program for their fleet and come up with a budget within the next couple of months. Also asked if I could go in front of town council for approval of the budget or other things for the town. I said I haven’t because where I am at we have a guy that does the budget and tracks this, I also said we have a program in existence that tracks our fleet schedule with pms and such. I also explained how we acquire and decide to get rid of our equipment. I have seen all sides of this business but like I told them I don’t know what I can do to get that experience besides having to quit and try and find a management job somewhere else but then I won’t get that because of no experience. So without someone taking a chance you never know if you can or can’t do something. I am comfortable with what I am doing in life but i am also taking a chance on this move too. Maybe I won’t like it? Maybe it’s not the right fit? But every time I have been given the chance to fill in and cover for current management I do an excellent job at it. I told my wife the other day that I remember back in the day everyone pushed to have a degree, without it you won’t succeed. Now without experience it seems like nothing else really matters. Within the first couple of minutes talking to the three interviewers i had a feeling they already chose someone else. They were just going through the motions.
