What Every Shop Must Know about Drivelines

Good read on 3 different types of driveshaft viberations

Camaro went to a two piece shaft trying to fix issues.

Ford also in 05 went two piece on mustang trying to fix issue.

You will see this is more talk about 2 piece shafts when it comes to marks.

A single piece is different.

Yet marks are done while having repairs and not at factory.

Another area.

Spacers on rear wheels by any chance?

Yes, 1/2" spacers but they are hub centric.

The frequency and location of the vibration makes me believe it's related to the driveshaft which spins much faster than the wheels. Also the fact that the vibration changes depending on whether I'm accelerating or coasting.

Is new shaft coming complete with transmission yoke.

Or do you have to sent yours?

You can order it with or without yokes but they can only guarantee balance with certain brands of yokes. I ordered mine with just the U-joints installed because I already have Strange chromoly yokes.

UPDATE: new shaft is installed and the vibration is gone. She's smooth past 140mph now! :D This issue has been dogging me for years and I'm thrilled it's fixed.

Now I have a new problem though, it's too fast!!

One of the hood vents blew out at 140+ and hit the windshield scaring the crap out of me...lol!

Dumb question, what is that tool called? Seems like a handy tool to have.

It's just a dial indicator with a roller tip mounted on a magnetic base. I used a transmission jack to position the tool under the driveshaft.

The roller tip gernerally does not come with the dial indicator and has to be bought seperately. I had purchased these tools earlier to do my cam install.
