Roommate bought another. 87 lx notch strawberry car. V8 5 speed. Cars in pieces but all there 5k I think the plan is to assemble and flip. I'll post pictures when he gets it home.

I saw this a few years ago with the 78 and 79 Trans-am. The prices started running up and it took 20 years to settle down. It is all generation related, the fox was the hot car back in the 80s and early 90s and now they are being rediscovered as classics. In my opinion you will see this continue for a few years with spikes up every now and then but rarely down. I would buy every clean one that I could find if I had the money and the place to keep them. To those of us that are fortunate to have one under 20 you have a true gold piece, its better than a savings account. For an example, I bought a 1970 442 W30 back about 20 years ago. I paid 16k for it and thought that I paid all it was worth. If you know those cars you know what they are worth today. While I am not making a comparison of the two cars I am suggesting we could see the same type of market for the fox. Enjoy the ride!!
Just curious about what my neighbor’s Foxbody might be worth. Asking for him after telling him about this thread. He has an all original (except intake and exhaust) 88 red LX vert with 70k miles. Original owner and probably a solid 8.5/10 overall. Maybe better.
Verts are the least desirable fox body. It is NO where near as valuable as the coupes. At least right now. He can price it at whatever he wants. 5K for a notch in rough shape is about right in today's market, not sure I'd buy one in pieces. The days of buying these cars for cheap are over. Your roommate is going to have to put plenty of sweat equity into that thing to make some money. Body, paint and interior are the biggest expense. The drivetrains can be had for cheap.
The body has new paint. It's been in storage for 5 years. Completely rust free, but that's normal here. My roommate has owned 20+ foxes and including this has 4 currently.
Keep us updated on this car., curious to see where it ends up If rust free and body and paint are fresh, that's a big win. Compared to "other" collector cars out there, the foxes are still down right cheap. If you have a nice coupe, keep it. They are just getting harder and harder to find.
It's getting flipped. He has a 1000whp lx hatch. A 4 eye notch and another lx hatch(31,000 actual miles) that's in the middle of a coyote swap. As far as rust free these are as good as I can do on the ground. It'll be on the lift soon.
They're cool, much like the MKVII, but of all the fox cars I can't remember the last time I saw one. Might be as rare as an LTD fox, at least around here. There's been a handful of Fairmonts that have popped up, and a couple MKVIIs in out here. No T-birds of that generation though. Plenty of the MN-12 ones. MKVIII's have all but disappeared too. I wonder if that will be the case. That generation seems far more wrapped up in JDM, which is why you're seeing the big premiums coming up on 90's Integras, Civics, 240s, 300Zs, etc... Crazy that the third gen F-body's are getting popular and pricey now. Makes me feel good about my 70 Cutlass I hung onto for cheap. Still can't find a reasonable buyer for the 68 wagon though. But I'm at a point I'm not going to cry about having a big block grocery getter.
A few years ago I had the chance to buy a beautiful 5.0 five speed black with black cloth 92 notch locally from the original owner. It only had something like 20K original miles and was all stock except for flowmasters and ROH wheels. It was listed for $7500 on local Craigslist. When I inquired about the car, the owner told me he now had it for sale at his friend’s used car lot. He was a police officer and said he was going thru a divorce and didn’t want his wife to have it. When I went to check it out, it was listed at $10K. I remember getting pissed about the price increase and the fact that l didn’t have the garage space at that time. So, I passed on it. A couple weeks later, I was getting my wife’s car washed at Wash Tub when I saw the same LX coupe also getting washed there. I talked to it’s owner. Guy told me he bought it from the original owner who worked at the station with him. I asked him how much he paid, but wouldn’t tell me. He did say it was much less than what the original asking price was. To think that if only I had seen the posting earlier, I might have got it for less than $7500. As I watched him drive away with that signature flowmaster sound, I think I shed a tear. I still think about that car that got away.
I bought an 89 fhp lx, 5 speed, black with tan cloth with about 70k on the clock. Paid $3700 with auction fees. With all the yellow painted and the black wet sanded and buffed I had $4200 all in. Drove that car for a hundred thousand more miles and put in a ditch. Sold the wteck for around 3k. Here's the kicker, I could have bought all of those cars that I wanted every time the state of Florida had a sale. If only.....
I had several chances to buy ex CHP coupes back in the day. The worry was always...it was a cop car, likely ridden hard and put away wet. In hindsight, should have bought every single one of them. I graduated high school in 1990, these cars were quite the thing to impressionable teenagers back in the day.
White and bimini is tough to find for sure....i've been trying for months lol. But also trying to stay below $15k. I've also been looking for a clean white gt or any other color with 93 cobra kit. Seem to find quite a few white gt's but always red interior!
