Soo finally got my 6.0 back together. new o-ringed heads, studs, oil cooler, egr cooler delete, new inner fenders, new heat box <-- (dont ask--lol) rough time. Anyways, took a bit to get the oil pressure up to fire. It fired up, idled smooth for about 2 mintues, then all the sudden started surging and loping. Shut it of, started right back up, idle smooth for about 5mins. took it for a drive. Had no issues driving. icp, ipr, vgt, ficm, ect.. all looked good driving.
Got back, let it idle a bit. no issues. shut if off. I let it sit overnight. Next morning, went to start it, took about 6sec. Fired up, started surging / loping again. Noticed the Icp duty cycle was fluctuating between .14 and .30. When temp it about 130 degrees. loping and surging went away. Icp stayed at .30 ipr was about 1200psi. Got up to operating temp. Icp and ipr wouldn't go below .30 duty cycle and 870psi. Got back shut it off. Wigged the Icp plug. and started it up again. ICP still at .30dty but now the ipr reads 634-650psi at idle. Could this be a faulty icp / pigtail issue?

Edit.. There's no issues when driving it.. icp is about .42 at 65mph 1100-1200psi. let off accelerator. icp drops to .30 sometimes mid/higher 20's 870psi. when it acts up. first time drive. icp was at .40-42 65mph 1058psi. let off went to .24 and ipr 700ish psi.

My brother in law's 6.0 F250 Harley edition with my sister's 93 triple white feature foxbody on the trailer. We just picked it up last Saturday. 20181222_163039.jpeg 20181222_162951.jpeg

Was the ICP ever leaking. A lot of times they'll leak and ruin the connector.

not that i know of. still original sensor. did have light coat of oil in the sensor when i put it back together. Cleaned it out cause i thought it was oil residue from disassembly. didn't see any on the connector after running it. Truck idled fine before it was disassembled. guess throw i a new sensor and connector, see what happens.

Although, did find out i got screwed by a shop that did my injectors. Paid for 8 new injectors and labor. Only got 3 new injectors (appears they are for an 03) and one idkwtf it is plus the rest are the original factory injectors . I have an 05. Kinda shitty. year later and they're like "we wouldn't do that" had a hard start issue ever since then. Truck would fire up almost instant. Now it's about 6-10 seconds cold.

If you replace the ICP, definitely replace the connector too.

Think if something was stuck on the ipr screen would cause theses issues?
just a though. wondering if "rag material" made it in there. But the issues seem to point to the icp. conditions changed when i messed with the connector

hmm. love hate relationship i guess. Wish a gift of flowers would help in theses situations like it does others....

Motorcraft 15w40 and maybe the last few years in the cold i would switch to rotella t6 5w40 and then recently started using rev x when it didn't like to idle cold. Other than the electrical part finally giving up it ran good.

Now that I have the new injectors in, It may have been throwing some extra fuel in while cranking when cold out. After a few cranks it would start to bog down while cranking. The thin oil and rev x seemed help with that.

Yelp, new icp didn't help. ipr was clean and clear. oil rails still full after sitting overnight. New motorcraft filters. Air tested. Didn't find or hear any leaks. Ficm at 48v. Glow plugs check out. Guess Hpop is junk?
F it... bustin out the 50cal and tannerite, give her something to cry about.

Usually not a lot of symptoms before the HPOP goes out.

IDS shows no codes. Sensors appear to be normal.
Try new fuel and see what happens.

Interesting. So watching sensors more closely. Computer is resorting to "default" on long crank cycles.
Drained fuel and replaced with same amount. Fired right up like a champ. Purrs like a kitten. Put it through a couple cycles. No further issues during testing.

    That's a new one...

So in the end this was a fuel issue?

    Rigs looking good smooth.

And holy crap that’s some damn good use out of those factory injectors.

    Little update on mine.
Had vibration after putting back together. Felt u joint like. Which made zero sense as every u joint and steady bearing are new.

    Rebalanced tires.(@ mechanics suggestion)
    Better but still there.

So removed rear drive shaft and went for rip. Viola zero vibration.
So rotated rear diff connection 180*.
    All but gone now.

Stupid weird problem makes no sense to me.

    Thanks.

The bus goes through a rear u-joint in the rear drive shaft about every 2 years or so depending on how much and how hard I drive it...that low end torque is addicting. I'm always sure to mark the yoke position at the diff so I get it back in the same clock position. About 4 years ago I had to have the rear driveshaft rebalanced after u-joint replacement didn't solve the vibration problem.

I can always tell when the rear joint is going cuz it starts to vibrate as I start braking on deceleration from highway speeds.

I’m thinking that’s my next step here. Get the thing rebalanced and totally eliminate all possible causes.

And very soon it’s chip time. Lol

Yep, believe it or not. I still don't.

Been starting right up and idling perfectly. Not even plugged in with the cold temps.
