It's unfortunate it takes events like these to learn lessons, I got pulled over last year probably over three times the legal limit, didn't realize how drunk I was and thought well, It's not THAT far and I didn't want to leave my truck where it was or stay where I was.

Pulled over by PD for doing 80 in a 35 at 4 in the morning, he said.. but I was maybe doing 10 over, who knows but I wasn't going that fast, looked at my ID and said he had to be somewhere else.....That was the last time I will get that lucky, and the last time I have ever driven after taking a drink.

Everyone always says don't blow, but cant they get your BAC at the hospital anyways or was that a labor day only law last year?

You must be Irish because I've never heard of such luck. lol I can't believe he let you go especially with it being in Texas because they don't joke around about driving drunk in this state. I think what you're thinking of is the special weekends/holidays that they choose and it's no refusal they pretty much take your blood on the spot IIRC or at least they do in Austin. Blowing was a mistake but I didn't do to well on the sobriety tests from what I remember so I think I wouldn't have had any greater chance at just getting obstruction or anything less than DWI because I was clearly drunk. If I hadn't blown my suspension would have been 180 days instead of 90.

48 in 40 is no bueno.

When I drive drunk, I keep under the speed limit.

/badjoke

though it is interesting how alcohol impairs your perception of speed.

seriously, sucks you had to learn the hard way. Why not just stuck around the party or took a few walks around the block until you got sobered up? Sit in the car and play on your phone for an hour or something.

Maybe he had really good composure for a person 3x over the limit, and the cop just figured he was speeding or such.

My cousin has been pulled over shitfaced a block from his house or apt and been let go because he could hold his composure and not act like a drunken retard. Both times he had already been driving 1-1.5hrs from where he was at and made it all that way only to get popped a block away.

I usually keep the car on cruise on the speed limit but that night guess I wasn't at full attention which is scary. Somebody 3x over the limit would wreak of alcohol. I didn't act like a drunken retard either, I held my composure very well but the cop smelled it on me which is what should have happened to your cousin if he was shitfaced like you say and he should have been given sobriety tests. I would chalk up your cousins experience to luck, not keeping his composure.

I agree, pure luck, not composure.

With you being at .177 (twice the legal limit for most states) you would have smelled like the county fair beer tent. You would have to be a professional drunk to do well on sobriety tests at .177...to a point. You can't control what alcohol does to your eyes. You would have been a pretty easy one.

Nice to see you man up and admit fault, you are the ones that deserve a lighter punishment. Glad to see things went a little easier for you.

Your night could have ended a lot worse.

I'm sure I did smell like the county fair beer tent. lol Yeah on the eye test I knew it wouldn't turn out well for me. I did great on the one foot in front of the other counting the steps to 10 then spinning around doing the same back towards the officer but the one foot 6 inches off the ground with my eyes closed was a killer got to 3 and I stumbled this happened multiple times and at this point I knew I was done for. I tried the last test with my foot off the ground and eyes closed sober and I had trouble. lol

lol. Atleast you learned something out of it and your not any worse off then what could've happened. Anything you can walk away from is a good day.

This!

You're just a little lighter in the pockets I'm sure.

Everyone makes mistakes, the fact that you're owning up to it and learning from it is what matters. We unfortunatly can't go back to change things, but we can change what we do in the future.

Props to you for the way you're dealing with it because everyone seems to always want to blame others instead of taking responsibility for themselves.

Yeah I'm a little lighter in the pockets but compared to some DWI stories I've heard I think I got out pretty good considering. I think between bond, fine, 2 classes, court costs and attorney I got out under 4k. Still a chunk of change but I know it could have been a lot harder on my pockets.

I think I would have bargained a side road deal.

Cop gets a drug bust up the street...you get an escort home.

I'm glad the cop got to you before you got to some innocent family. Lesson learned or not, it's a stupid and selfish decision to drive drunk or to put yourself in a situation where you can drive drunk. Just my opinion...

I agree. After having been to the M.A.D.D. class and hearing the stories of 2 mothers losing their daughter and son at the age of 19 because of drunk drivers. It's really gut wrenching and how I couldn't live with myself if I caused that kind of pain to a mother or family or my own family.

Good advice. lol Just spend my extra cash on mods and then I won't have any money left so I can't go out and drink. Problem solved. I like it.

Drinking responsibly can be just as much fun as anything else. I have a friend who drinks until he is puking and can't remember shit everytime he goes out and honestly I don't understand him at all.

It's really not that much trouble to either plan and and have a place to stay or a DD and you can drink however much you want. Or if you can't find an alternative then just pace yourself and get home in once piece.

I don't know why people thing you have to get trashed beyond remembrance or not drink at all.

When I feel like getting trashed...I throw the party at my house!

This is how some people drink. I use to drink like that when I was 21-23 of course I didn't start drinking until I was 21 so that's probably why I drank that way plus I would get shitfaced and wake up feeling amazing but now if I do that I wake up feeling like I was hit by a truck. Damn this 26yr old body. haha
