Well someone stole my keys, and now im using the 2nd set. I wanted to know if it was possible to have the PATS System changed to not accept the old keys, and just program the one i have left to match it? Also, how would i go about putting a kill switch in the car. I know how to put them on old cars, but how would you instal one on a new gen car? Any help would be nice, Venix.

I had a set of my keys stolen last year also when my house was broken into. You have a couple options. You can just have the current key reprogramed so that the car's ignition will not recognize the old one any longer. However, the old key will still open the doors to the car and the trunk. The remote will also still open the doors. The key just wont start the car. You will have to have all the locks physically changed on the car in order for the old key to not work in the doors also. I believe to have all this done by Ford they quoted me close to $800.
I opted for the less expensive route due to issues with my insurance company being a bunch of **** suckers but that is a whole different long story.
The good news for me is that they caught the little ass hole who broke into my house and I get to go meet him in court next week finally, over a year later. I can't wait.

That's the same thing I did. I only had one key left so I opted to get two new ones and have the old one reprogrammed. I believe it was about $170 for this. If you only need one key it will be a little less. Good Luck.

As I remember it, you need at least 2 working keys to program a third one yourself, but if you only have 1 key, then to add a 2nd key, Ford needs to do it.

This is the procedure I used after having a locksmith cut me a third key:
-------------
On-Board Programming Method "C"

for Ford keys (Later 1998-newer Ford, Lincoln, Mercury)
If you want to initiate a new master key....

1. This requires that the vehicle be connected to special dealer equipment. There are two ten minute delays involved while this device erases all existing key programming and sets up the vehicle computer to accept new key codes. Two new keys should be ready because the system requires a minimum of two keys in the program. After the first two keys are programmed, additional keys can be entered individually by following the instructions for adding duplicate keys (below).

If you want to add a key....

**You must have two original keys to perform this procedure. If you only have one key, you WILL have to take it to the dealer to get it programmed**

1. Insert and existing (working) key into the ignition cylinder.

2. Turn the ignition cylinder ON (RUN) and back to OFF. Ignition should stay on for at least ONE SECOND.

3. Remove the existing key and, within TEN seconds, insert a second working key and turn it to ON (RUN) and the back OFF. Ignition must be in ON for at least ONE second, but no more than TEN seconds. Remove the key.

4. Insert the new key before TWENTY seconds have elapsed and turn it to ON (RUN). Leave it the ON position for at least ONE second and turn back to OFF.

5. The security light will light up for THREE seconds to indicate that the new key has been successfully programmed.

6. To program additional keys, repeat steps 1 through 5

That's why I ended up getting two new ones. I wanted a total of three keys just in case I ever lost one, I'd be able to reprogram a third one myself. A lot cheaper than having ford do it again. Good advice.

There are several ways you can install a kill switch. But I think the easiest way to accomplish it would be to wire a switch in the fuel pump relay circuit. That way they can crank it until the cows come home, but it won't start. You could also put the switch in the crank circuit to the starter solenoid so it won't crank. But they will be able to push start it. Maybe a double pole single throw switch for both circuits??

I think the newer cars only require one original to program addational ones. As for the key fob, you have to program all of them at once. if you lost one you can simply reprogram the ones you have and the old ones will not work anymore. If you are looking at getting a new key fob..I do have some for sale with the programming instructions included. Let me know

New Key

I just bought a new cobra that only had one key... I bought a key form ebay (around 20 bucks) and then took it to a VERY GOOD locksmith and had them cut it.. Then I took it to the dealership to program it..

20.00 bucks for the key 3.50 to have it cut
40.00 for dealership to program it..

If you have two keys you are able to program a 3rd yourself, I have yet to do it though.. From everything I read and found out you HAVE to have 2 working keys that will START the vehicle to program an extra. If you only have ONE key you will need to go the dealership in order to get that key programmed to start the vehicle.

Buy a key from ebay I've bought two extras and just haven't been able to get the 3rd one cut yet. (i'll try and program it myself they provide instructions on how to do it)
