The rear tubular control arms have a little slop between the bushing and the rear axle mounts on my 95 R. It uses a heim joint with bushings on either side. Never bothered me on the track, but makes a lot of noise on the street. Is there any reason I cant shim the bushing tight to the suspension? Wondering if it shouldn't be tight in the first place.

I can't see it being an issue as long as it's centered in the pick up location.
I would check to see if the torque box was deformed before shimming and correct that first
